    First Attempt

I bought mine on ebay and there is usually always a listing for them there in a kit specifically for cleaning pipes. But if you do get one, you'll have to start using something a bit cheaper than the alcohol your now using. :) A retort can use a lot of it, especially on a real dirty one.

    Might have to Quit

Spartan, while your advice should be good advice, at least to someone with common sense. I found in both my cases that the superiors didn't want to hear anything from the employees. I found that they thought since they were the ones in charge, that only they knew what was truly going on. I did...

    Might have to Quit

I've been in your place a couple times Charles. Worked a couple places that started suffering. I could tell that they were destined to fold and that can have a vast array of effects on the company as well as employee moral. This in turn can cause a lot of drama in the work place as people begin...

    First Attempt

And the good thing about doing ebay lots......... buy em cheap, clean em up and turn em around. If you do well, Pipes can be a self supporting hobby. I've never done the salt and alcohol and only did the salt and cotton ball a few times before buying my pipe retort. I'd not go back to not...

    Shipping

I mail by Priority Mail in the free boxes. I too always seperate and wrap the stem and pipe seperate. I then put them both in a ziploc baggy. I reuse the styrofoam peanuts and fill the box surrounding the pipe. I've shipped hundreds of pipes and never had one lost or arrive damaged yet. :)

    Viking vs Falcon Metal Pipes

The kirsten is a bit more fiddly than either the viking or the falcon. It has more parts and takes more cleaning than either of the others. That being said, any of the three can be a good pipe and with several bowls can be great smokers.

Big Changes: Will Be In and Out of The Forums

Make your move and concentrate on getting that done. I know how time consuming it can be. Relax a bit and take your time to move and get set up right. We aren't going anywhere and will be here when you finally get back here. Congratulations on the new place too......... It always feels good to...

    Fitting?

I always wait too take mine apart till it's cooled for a while. One good reason, amoung many, why a person should have more than one pipe. Leaving it set a day, even smoking it a few times before removing the stem won't hurt the pipe. Especially if you run a cleaner thru it between smokes...

    I went in.......

Seth, sounds like you have it figured out. Like said, go slow till you get the hang of it. And rest that ankle as much as possible so that you can get healed up much quicker. I know what you mean about being bored. I broke my leg a week ago and got my cast on Thursday. I've been taking it easy...

It's always nice to get more than you bargained for

St. Louis Gateway Pipe Show 2012

Uber, St. Charles is actually where the show is, so you'd be closer than you think. :)

    I went in.......

I've been refurbing pipes almost as long as I've been smoking a pipe. Good luck on your venture, just take your time. To do a good job, with the least elbow grease, you need a couple tools. 1) A good reamer 2) A good buffer These tools don't even have to be expensive.

To Flip or Not To Flip

I do as Sundowner........ I'm a flipper and a clipper. I as well clip off the ends after running them thru the first time on each end. I just clip them thill they are too short too use anymore.

    Craftsman Buffing Set

I used to use the Tripoli (Red) on heavily oxidized stems but found it's easy to cause damage, or very heavy scratching using it. It will even cause melting if too high a speed buffer is used. I do still use the Tripoli when I'm working on finishing a pipe bowl I'm making as it saves a lot of...

Penzance? Am i crazy, or do others not care for it???

For a lot of people I talked too Penzance is one of those Love it or Hate it blends. I happen to really Love the blend myself.

    Free hand (Briar Bird)

Kind of a Freehand Tomato shape. Nice work BB...... Keep at it and keep sharing your pipes!

    Crash and Burn!

Yep uber, I never ride without my boots, gloves and helmet. Any speed can do major damage and while they don't stop an accident, they can minimize the damage done to your body.

St. Louis Gateway Pipe Show 2012

If your looking for a room and don't mind just being close (Probably 5 miles) the LaQuinta for the airport has rooms at $52 a night. That's where I'm staying. I did break my leg on Monday, but still plan on attending. I'll just be setting for most of the show.
