Well, not actually!
With the unusually warm weather we have been having, I've been riding my Yamaha Majesty (400cc) scooter a bit. Had it out on Monday, as it was in the 60's, and went over to a buddies. It's about a 40 mile ride. I was getting close and made a turn off a state highway onto a county highway. As I made the turn I got into a buildup of deep and loose pavement. The front wheel sunk, yanking the handlebars from my hands and dumping the bike. It caught my boot under the bike as it threw me and rolled my ankle. It scraped the plastics on the bike and also my helmet. I got right up, but my ankle didn't feel right. I did start the bike up and finished my ride to my buddies house. I didn't however stay long and left for the 40 mile ride home. When I got home, my wife helped me to remove my boots (Which I had smartly worn) and found the ankle very badly swollen. I went to the emergency room and found that I had a compound fracture of the Tibia. The small, non-weight bearing bone in my leg. It's put me on the recliner for a bit.
Leg is in a very heavy splint right now and have a doctors appointment tomorrow and find out if they are putting the leg in a cast, which is what I figure they will do.
I'm still planning on making the St. Louis pipe show in a couple weeks, but other than that, not sure how long I'm down. At least I can still smoke my pipes!

Tough break, Dawg, but it could have been worse. On the bright side, you can rest easy at the show, and have tbear run for your drinks :D

yup u take care and ride again. I ride and my wife rides "bitch" {bikers know the term} we have a 2006 shadow 750 that we bought new, anyway, what im gittin at is; every summer, here in the annapolis valley, 4-6 bikers git in accidents, some fatal. I haven't layed down any bike ive had since 1986, and it was a bad one, broken arm, leg, and ribs, and a little road rash, but i got off lucky. I guess its a risk we consider worth taking. any given day here, on a ride u can meet or pass at least 100-300 bikes!!!! Im just glad u were not seriously hurt.

Smart man for wearing your safety gear. When I first learned to ride, I did nearly the same thing on some gravel and slid into a ditch. Because I was wearing helmet, jacket, boots and gloves, All I got was a little road rash and a bruise on my chest where the handlebars dug in. Taught me a lesson I will never forget. You won't see me riding in shorts and flip-flops.

Time to get the TAD and PAD fix in and try a bunch of new samples. I would be glad to send something if I had something. Waiting on my P&C order to come in.

Glad to hear its just your ankle and not your neck, or head. Good thing you were wearing your helmet. I have a little two stroke scooter that i ride around in the summer. It only goes 30mph and isnt a real moped, so I ride it on the shoulder of the road. Well I hit a patch of gravel an almost fell. It scared the shit out of me. I was wearing a short sleeve shirt, shorts, flip flops, and no helmet. Also there were cars coming at 55mph so f iI fell I probably would have been hit

Yep uber, I never ride without my boots, gloves and helmet. Any speed can do major damage and while they don't stop an accident, they can minimize the damage done to your body.

I like to include a full faring and windscreen as part of safety gear. Back in day, my father and I used to ride every other year in the Three Flags Classic; for those who don't know, it is a trip that runs North/South along the continent yearly; headed South one year, and North the next.

One year, as we were travelling through the Dakotas at a decent clip on the Yamaha XS11 Special roadster my father affectionatly refers to as "Bart", he suddenly began to swat at his chest like a mad-man. Screaming something about a bee-sting, he hit the gravel shoulder, but fortunately held on. Once he had the bike under control, he took a look at his chest, and low and behold, there was a hummingbird, buried beak deep in his pectoral, pissed off and flapping like mad! To this day, he swears the only pain he has felt that is worse is breaking his little-toe (which is brutal); and this is from a guy who literally rode bulls to pay his way through university...

Sadly, we haven't been able to do the Three Flags Classic since I was a teenager; but believe me when I tell you Bart sports a full faring and windscreen these days.

Smokindawg: Sorry to hear about laying it flat, but glad you're (relatively) ok. I've seen lotsa nasty ankles over the years. Good to hear you were wearing the gear. People often think about a helmet but forget the gloves and boots.
Baron:

You won't see me riding in shorts and flip-flops.

In Dallas ?? You're a very brave man in this heat ;-) I see too many dimwits out here riding in the dreaded t-shirt and flip-flops...
