Bent bulldogs are my favorite shape by a long chalk, and I am likewise a fan of Peterson. Yet, somehow, I'd managed not to acquire a Peterson bent bulldog. I found a wonderful price for the 80s with the tapered stem (which I prefer for the this shape)and a fishtail bit (not a P-lip fan) on P&C and so placed the order. The pipe was from the Shannon line, one of the company's lighter stains.
As you can see, the pipe I received is a cut above your average $65 pipe, with a nifty straight grain (that carries all around the bowl on all sides) that translates into nice birds eye on the top of the bowl. Just about a classic bent bulldog.
I think I'll break in tonight with a bowl of the Squadron Leader, while reading some Derek Robinson for good measure. I might just re-read Yeats' "An Irish Airman Foresses His Death" for good measure. (Hmmm. I wonder if my silk scarf is back from the cleaner)
