I have one I restored 2 weeks ago and smokes great, it's just that with one of my tobaccos it gets really hot fast but with the other it's nice, cool and smooth....I do get the similarity now that you mention it even though my Grabow is newer
Yeah Zanthal..I just made the mistake last week of drilling alil to the left for the shank and ruined the one I was working on...BOOO...but it was piece of practice wood not so it's not a complete loss..a drill press would make it much easier
THAT'S AWESOME Cajunguy..I've always heard they were glam rock b4 Cowboys from Hell but never heard anything from then...AS much as I love Pantera I think Machine Head is my favorite 90's metal band[since they still are one of them]..

I've always been intrigued with pipes and of course Sherlock had a lil to do with it but last December I saw an old guy in the Hess parking lot lighting a huge calabash and I said screw it I'm buying one.I went home, got on Amazon and bought a "Sanda classic" and have been hooked since.
Happy B-Day!! I personally have a fiance' that actually helps with my re-furbs and looks for pipe stuff for me anywhere she might find any even though she doesn't smoke a pipe....I GOT LUCKY!!lol
I completely understand grizzly....I too am in the beginnings of carving.. I have ordered from http://pipemakers.org/ and got great results, along with great customer service. They have pre-drilled "pipe-kits" or really cheap briar blocks [when it's not sold out] along with Everything you may...
When I first started smokin my pipe I didn't smoke a cig for 2 days but then the convenience of cigs set in...I generally smoke cigs but throw in a bowl here and there throughout the day
I saw one at an antique shop last week and granted it was busted up pretty bad I asked the guy how much and he told me it went with the stand up ashtray that was $200 and WOULDN'T sell it otherwise
Thanks Cajunguy ..That definitely explains my more matte finish since that's alot more than I'm able to do right now with my dremel..lol..Greatly appreciate it and I will be putting that info to work on my next beater
Thanks Cortezattic...I have heard of buffing with tripoli polish[I think it's called]then micro mesh then carnuba but wasn't sure.....Usually I get tons of info from here but not tonight I guess..lol
Hobie1....That's what I'm talkin about...Maybe I should kidnap Cajunguy and force his secrets..lol..Thanks Brew....if I could I would,but my grill won't get hot enough..lol
I know this may be a dumb question,But I've used Carnuba wax and buffed the hell out of it and it still won't shine like the pipes I've seen at the local b&m...If anyone could shed some light on my dilemma I'd greatly appreciate it.
Actually I just got my first Kaywoodie Friday for $12 and just about finished the refurb 10 mins ago...Just have to wax it so here is a before and after[thus far].......
..Crappy camera phone sry..
after..
I've done 3 pipes [so far] with iso and cotton balls and it's worked great for me...I did try the liquor method once without as much success, but that's just me
True.I too have little woodworking experience but with the limited size and quanity of wood along with my interest in carving a pipe figured I'd give it a shot..like you said it'll be good practice...
if nothing else
I'd have to say my absolute favorite that is only available in a winter sampler is Sam Adams' Black and Brew [a black lager mixed with espresso]and my local B&M blend Ben franklin[Black cavendish and chocolate] The chocolate in the lager and smoke compliment each other so well along with the...
