    My Pipes (Image Heavy)

Great photography! I like that first one... "nosewarmer"... looks like a big bowl, but the pic with you holding it in your hand gives perspective of how tiny it is.

Man Mistakes Wife for a Hog

Reminds me of the story (supposedly true) of John Wayne bird hunting (quail, I think) with his long-time friend and co-star Ward Bond. (They had both played football on the same USC team before going to Hollywood.) A bird flew between Wayne and Bond and Wayne shot, peppering Bond's back with...

Questions on Clay and Meer Pipes...

A military bit on a clay? Yes, I'd like to see pics too. Mine are all one piece "traditional". But yes, I did try the fire thing once and was amazed at the result. I let my fireplace burn down and then lay the clay on the hot coals and lay more hot coals on the top. The next morning, i took...

Chicago Tribune Article On A Favorable Judicial Ruling

That's a good omen, BUT..... the CDC just launched their similar "public service propaganda" ads on TV using the same ugly images.

The mongers move on, and the haters hate.

Yep, I've seen one. It could be about dog attack victims, which are just as rare as smoking vitims (if that's what caused this.... debatable... dog attacks aren't). Should we ban dogs? The same "much ado about nothing".

    Pipe smoking etiquette; NEIGHBORS

Make it a game. When they come back out, you go back out and light up. See what happens. Go out and light up whenever you see them outside. If this is a definite pattern and not a coincidence, to hell with them.

    Horror Photos on Cigarette Packs

I just saw a "public service announcement" (read propaganda commercial) from the CDC on a cable channel. The same kind of "shock" material as was proposed on cig. packs. Besides the clips of those side-show losers, the spot ended with "A single cigarette harms your body". If it does, there is...

    Pipe Lighters

I love my Corona Pipe Magie. Has a 90-degree flame for pipe lighting, easy to use (with right hand) and has nothing to catch on the pocket like Old Boys. I won't buy anything you have to hold a trigger down on. Here's a pic link: (copy the whole link and paste into new window)...

    Smoking in the Car

I think I've told the story here of catching my pants on fire (flammable cow manure dust that flashed and then was out in an instant). All because a wooden match broke off in striking and fell to my feet. From then, on, I use wooden matches only at home, and a Corona lighter (needs only one...

Are cigarettes tobacco and pipe tobacco the same?

Half & Half was called that originally because it was "Half Burley and Half Bright"(Virginia) and said on the pocket tin "for pipe or cigarette". I'm not sure what the blend is today, but I would guess the original was cut more for cigarettes (shredded) rather than today's H&H which is chunkier...

    Pipe Babes 2012

:puffy: A suggestion: Will somebody PLEASE give these Babes a decent pipe lighter to use? I cringe when seeing them trying to hold down the trigger on a cheap, throw-away disposable while trying to get a good light (and probably burning their thumb). The pictorials are supposed to depict...

    Deertongue

I like 4Noggins' "Mojo" with deer tongue a lot better than "Crooner". It's a nice change of pace from my usual Va/burley blends. You get the vanilla nose without the nasty aftertaste that you get with goopy aromatics that have vanilla flavor added. It's real clean burning in comparison.

Did anybody get dinged yet on the new shipping laws?

UPS can be fickle. Whenever I order from Lil Brown Smoke Shack in Washington (Indian reservation) UPS holds my order for several days at a depot in City of Industry, Colo. before shipping it on to Texas. They are determined not to give you "3-day delivery" unless you PAY for it.

Nitrus Oxide? Isn't that "laughing gas" that was once used by dentists? :laughat:

    Tounge has turned black!!!

Are you smoking a Peterson P-lip? That's the only thing that burns the roof of my mouth.

    Martinis

I never cared much for martinis, as for practical purposes, the "dry" ones are nothing but straight-up gin. (You "dry" connoiseurs would probably be aghast at FDR's White House cocktail hour, where he used almost 50% vermouth in mixing his guests' martinis.) The worst drink I ever had was...

How to Smoke the Tobacco at the Bottom

I've been using the "spoon down to bottom opposite the draft hole" method for years and it usually gets the last remnants of unburned tobacco left in the heel (except on pipes with a sharp inside taper). My goal has always been a near complete burn of the tobacco. It think it's better for the...

Cleaning woman cleans up modern art.

The cleaning woman should be given a medal!! :worship: Next we need to find a bulldozer operator of a similar bent to remove all those rusted piles of welded junk masquerading as "art" in our parks and public areas. Maybe it wasn't Warhol who was the first (with his copying a soup...

    Why I smoke

Welcome to the coterie, Todd. As for WHY I smoke a pipe, I must confess a lot of it is about vanity and hero worship. I have admired many men of the past who were pipe smokers. Besides my own father, there were those with names like Twain, MacArthur, Cronkite, Mancini, Crosby, and many others...

    GKCPC 2012 Smoking Area

Why can't you smoke in the show building? :x
