January 2011 - What are you smoking? II

Mac Baren Plumcake in my 4-pin Brigham volcano. Takin' her slow and easy. Just right on that slow smoking line, I think. It is delicious. All the flavors coming through. Simon

    An Unexpected Hobby

Will be interesting to see who wins the race: the hysterical anti-smoking "throw the baby out with the bath water" rush to ban all forms, or the thoughtful, reasoned, risk-accepting adopters of pipe smoking. Simon

    Seattle Trip Day 1

It's amazing. Washington State actually sounds worse than Canada. If I was living there, I'd be giving Oregon a real close look. Their brochures read "Come visit Oregon! A pocket of sanity between California and Washington!" Now we know why Washington's budget's in the crapper: they're...

Smoke Rings Cigar & Tobacco Company Opens in Vancouver Area

As I pointed out in the comments to the blog post, this is awesome. Nice to see another B&M pop out of the ground fairly near to where I live. I'm fortunate enough to be in Victoria, but a day trip to Nanaimo might be just the ticket for one of those lazy dog-dangling afternoons. Simon

Bubba's PAD, TAD, and Other Purchases Thread - 2011

What is it about these little pieces of briar that instills such lust? Just a rhetorical question. Continue with the lusting. That's a nice shape. Not your usual bulldog stem shape. Distinctive. Simon

January 2011 - What are you smoking? II

A second bowl of Solani #133 (X Sweet Mystery) in my Brigham 1/2 bent volcano. I spent more time with the baccy before lighting, and I think I'm appreciating it a lot more. Very interesting mix of flavors. Simon

    Beginner Help

Hey portascat. Please post in the "Explain Your Screen Name" thread, I can't wait for yours. It's probably not what I'm thinking. :-) Everybody's tastes are different, as well as their tolerances for the active ingredients in the pipe tobacco. Case in point, I loved the first half-bowl of the...

    New Members, Introduce Yourself!

Welcome, antipodesman. I'm also a "non-smoker" who took up the pipe, with about the same frequency of smoking. I agree with your assessment of burley, but to each their own. Unfortunately, a burley blend is what my tobacconist started me off on, and it probably set back my hobby three years or...

January 2011 - What are you smoking? II

New tobacco (to me): McClelland Bulk Raspberry Cream. The local B and M redubs it "Chambord", which is a classy reference to a French liqueur. It's smoking well in my Grabow Omega. No bite. Tastes good. Nice for a change. Simon

January 2011 - What are you smoking? II

First bowl of Solani X Sweet Mystery. It's not what I expected. It tastes good and smokes well. Not the currant as advertised. Going to have to order the Stokkebye. In my Vauen Rhodesian. Simon

    TAD Purchases

I stopped by Goodfellas today and grabbed a tin of Solani X Sweet Mystery and a 25g bag of McClelland Raspberry Cream. I've been dying to try the Solani ever since I ran out of PS Black Currant Cavendish. Simon

Frog Morton On The Town in my rusticated Brigham apple. First in a while. This winter weather sure discourages the trips to the garage. But the trips I do make are all the sweeter for it. Simon

    Slow Puff Cafe

Great stories, everyone! Myself, I'm 37 and have been married for 13 1/2 years to a wonderful woman who I first met at university when I was at the tender age of 19. We've got two kids now, a seven year old daughter and a three year old son. Guess who's more trouble? I really should have stuck...

    New Members, Introduce Yourself!

Welcome, Sean and schmitzbitz! @Sean, there was a thread recently on recommended tobaccos for beginners: http://pipesmagazine.com/forums/topic/recommended-starter-tobacco#post-27151 That might give you some ideas. If I was anywhere NEAR Iwan Ries, I would make the trip to go see it, after...

    More PADdy goodness!

Nice pipe! I think I can honestly say that's the first freehand that would have turned my head in the store, too. Nice combination of the curves and angles. I didn't make it to Rich's when I was in Portland last summer. I might have to rectify that if I'm given the chance. How did your friends...

    How many pipes

I've got six pipes now (quite a few, considering the infrequency of smoking) and since my choice of tobaccos is mostly aromatic, I have five of them for that task and one for latakia blends. Just enjoy. The pipe I've selected for latakia only recently made the switch from being an aro-pipe and...
