Hi guys,
a quick question from a beginer...do i need to have 1 pipe for 1 flavor (1 for sweet flavor, 1 for fresh aromatics etc..)

People will have many different opinions on this subject! I simply classify my pipes by Aromatic smokers, Virginia and Burley smokers, or English smokers. I have 44 pipes and only 4 are for anything other than aromatic smokers, because I am mainly an aromatic smoker.

Some will have a pipe for only a certain blend. Others will smoke anything in the pipes they have. I fall in the second category.

I have started classifying my pipes as such: aromatic pipes, or not. Most of my pipes are in the "not" category.

That's a popular question Cavemanz. I think most pipe rotations sort themselves out with time as pipes and tobacco blends (or genres) find each other.
I have pipes for three categories: Latakia, Lakeland, and everything else (my usual fare).

If I ever start smoking aromatics I would start yet another category.
IMHO, the only tobacco that really should have a pipe dedicated to it are Virginia Flakes

-- and not being a sophisticated connoisseur, I'm too lazy to manage even that!

I started with a pipe for each day of the week. Then went to one for each day of the month. I have now passed one for each day of the year. PAD Is incurable!!

UncleArthur is right....the more pipes you have, the more you will want.....PAD is incurable!..... :?

Can't agree more with UncleArthur...just started pipe smoking about 3 weeks ago and i have 3 pipes now :) wife not been very happy about it though she loves the smell of aromatics :lol:
as a beginner...i have been smoking aromatics only...tried Maddletons wine berry the other day and can't get rid of the taste in one of my pipe...should have read the tobacco review 1st before i bought and smoke the blend :oops: ...I guess certain aromatics would leave a ghost in your pipe then...

As you smoke along you will find some blends can share a pipe and some can not. I have about 40 pipes , about 15 get used . From time to time I switch them out of the rack to give them time to rest .

I have 22 pipes of which 3 are primarily used for Latakia blends. I am sure more pipes will

find their way into my collection. :)

I'm pretty close to Bubbadreier on this one. Because I'm old and forgetful, I reserve my English and Irish pipes for English, a couple top shelf (for me) American made pipes for Virginia, and the rest aromatics/whatever. That's about as much organization as I can handle.
My worst case of lingering flavor in briar had nothing to do with the tobacco I used. I bought a pipe a few years back from a local brick and mortar store-- lit it up and filled my mouth with the overwhelming taste of orange glo. I suggested that they have a little talk with their cleaning staff.

im new as well. i only have two pipe so far. mostly due to lack of free money to blow, otherwise i would be giving in to that voice in my head telling me to buy more types.
for now i have been smoking old dublin out of my nicer peterson and will continue to smoke non aromatic in that pipe. my first pipe is a cheaper unknown company briar pipe that i use so far for aromatics.

as far as i know it doesnt matter if you mix different types when your starting out. thats what starting out is all about...experimenting. i found that once i spent more money on the peterson i wanted to try and save it for one type.

Being old and forgetful...... I have pipes for red Virginias, Latakia, Lakeland, Burleys and Aromatic.
The Red Virginias get a schmall dot of my wifes red nail poish( the size of a pin head ) on the underside of the stem.
The Latakias - An " L " in black sharpie ( need to find black nail polish )
Lakeland - 2 Petersons reserved for these blends.
Burley - MM Cobs
Aeromatics - A few Kaywoodies reserved. I do remember why Kaywoodies, the stem unscrews while the pipe is lit to clean the carberator ( aluminum thingy )of aromatioc condensation.
That's the way I doit !!

Most of my pipes are now dedicated to a particular tobacco. When I try a new tobacco I make every attempt to try it in a pipe dedicated to a very similar blend.
Three or four of my pipes, like those I leave in my locker at work, are dedicated only to a type of blend such as Vapers, English, or aromatics.

I've got six pipes now (quite a few, considering the infrequency of smoking) and since my choice of tobaccos is mostly aromatic, I have five of them for that task and one for latakia blends.
Just enjoy. The pipe I've selected for latakia only recently made the switch from being an aro-pipe and it was no big deal. If you find that you're really offended by the lingering tastes of previous tobaccos, that's between you and your briar. :puffy:
