    First Estate Pipe Guidance

I use Bacardi 151. One snort for me, one for the pipe. Everybody's happy in the end. I also can't get everclear, and the 151's the highest-proof alcohol available to me. I have a bottle of pipe sweetener, but I use it seldomly. Got it from the local B&M. Simon

    MacBaren's Plumcake!

I've got a jar with some Plumcake left in it. I smoke aromatics most of the time, and I keep Plumcake on hand for when I want something light and not heavily flavored. It rides that line of aro/non-aro pretty well. The tin note is very much like its namesake. I had a fantastic bowl of it not...

A great setting, great story, great tobacco

Awesome. Just awesome. Makes me understand the spirit behind Jackknife Plug, even if it's nothing like the tobaccos I like. Simon

    Just Learned About Niccups

In the past, I've been hit by the dizziness and nausea and at the time I claimed on this board to have had the "nic-ups" which to my mind was a play on the term "sick-up". I never dreamed that it was actually referring to uncontrollable hiccups. That's strange and weird and awesome and...

February 2011 - What are you smoking? II

McClelland raspberries and cream in a Grabow Grand Duke mini churchwarden. I've been out of it for days: laid low by the flu. I'm back now and ready to load up my pipes with leaf. Simon

Carmen in a Little Black Dress Smoking 7 Seas Royal

@igloo: Now I've got some awesome VH music stuck in my head. Thanks!!!!! A fine set of pics of a fine-looking lady. Pipe ain't bad, neither... :-) Did anyone else find the earlier pics where she's holding the pipe more alluring than the later ones where she's clenching? I'm sure there's...

If you could only smoke one blend, what would it be?

@flanative: I hear ya! It's not a "real" question. There isn't some dystopian future where we are at war with Eastasia and your ration kit will have three grams of "Big Brother's Own" pipe tobacco. Personally, I always rotate blends and pipes, depending on what I feel like. Even if the greatest...

Guys, do not forget St. Valentine's Day Tommorrow.

It's mostly about her, although she gave me a card and some sweets. But come to think of it, since I'm sending her to the salon, I'll get the bonus of looking at her looking her best for a bit, and that ain't bad! Simon

Guys, do not forget St. Valentine's Day Tommorrow.

@mikethepipe: Any excuse will do, although I'd prefer less painful ones. I also arranged for a trip to the salon for my wife tomorrow, and that went over like a million dollars. She doesn't get pampered enough. Simon

    Dream set

Nice looking pipes. I'm not what I would consider a collector, so buying vintage unsmoked pipes isn't my cup of tea. Getting a set of fine new or fine estate pipes and restoring them is more like it. :-) That Stanwell Night and Day series has me intrigued... Simon

Guys, do not forget St. Valentine's Day Tommorrow.

Didn't forget, although it was a near thing. I intended on doing some "last minute" pick-ups, but then on my way out the door I slipped and fell on the stairs. Banged my knee up and had to retreat to the house to ice it and elevate it. Managed to lever myself off the couch and out a little...

Teeth Clencher or Hand Holder/Straight or Bent

Clenching tires my jaw out, so when I'm smoking a 1/2 bent or more pipe, I more "dangle" it than clench. But 9 out of 10 bowls I'm usually reading, so one hand is available to provide support, no matter the pipe. Simon

    Pipe smoking and Golf...

Clenching? Just a thought. Might help your game, remembering to relax the jaw so you don't bite through the stem on drives. Actually, I golf pretty rarely, but I was definitely thinking about taking my pipe the next time. There's a Chacom volcano at my B&M that has a poker-style flat bottom on...
