NEED HELP WITH UNUSUAL PIPE STEM

Fascinating! I looked around the web for some and couldn't come up with anything quite like it. This picture from the Amsterdam Pipe Museum has a similarity around the mouthpiece and also construction materials. I plan on visiting this museum in the next two years, so I'll let you know if I find...

    Saw briar pipes?

Sorry, I was replying to mso's post. They are indeed different. From the Wikipedia page they are both classified as "shrubs" though, not exactly vines. A mere technicality, I suppose.

    Saw briar pipes?

I have an estate "Breezewood" that is made of that stuff. I read that it imparts a bitter taste to the smoke but I haven't noticed that. It's gotta be over sixty years old now so any bitterness must be long gone.

    Tiki Pipe Tray (Pics)

They do look ominous. Plus there is the whole curse of the jealous goddess, Pele thing. I once knew a pharmacist who was certain he was cursed for bringing back a small volcanic rock from the islands. Of course rational people don't believe in such crockery! ....uh... Right? Well, it looks so...

Please Explain the Use of These Nails

"Explosion and fire incidents related to manufacturing attempts in homes have been reported. Associated Press reports that such incidents in United States have primarily been in west coast states that permit medical marijuana".- Wikipedia entry for making the stuff. It also cautions that only...

    Captain Black revisited

I smoked Captain Black for several years until I wandered into a Tinder Box and discovered their "Crown Royale" blend which was a very mild aromatic. I remember that as an epiphany at the time. It was so much of an improvement and further contributed to my enjoyment of the pipe. Then the...

    Yello-Bole Imperial Resto

That's my second one. I liked the first so much I didn't hesitate to bid on this one. Here's the first -->Old Yeller Also did a quickie on this Kaywoodie Flame Grain. Not as happy with this one. I have to do some more sanding to get rid of pits and scratches.

    A Wonderful Smoke

It can be transcendental sometimes. After the last smoke I had like that I didn't pick up a pipe for another 3 or 4 days. It was that satisfying.

    Yello-Bole Imperial Resto

I've been working on this one for the past three days and I'm please how it came out. The one major issue was a coating of lacquer that had cracked with age. I removed it by scrubbing with acetone soaked cotton pads, a light sanding, then swabbing with alcohol. After buffing with white diamond...

    Yello-Bole Premier Estate

@Gary, it does indeed have KB&B in the clover leaf. It also says "Cured with real honey", and then "Premier" stamped in cursive. Under that is "Imported Briar"

    Yello-Bole Premier Estate

Thanks! I've been getting some really good deals recently. Just got a pipe rack/tobacco jar combo complete with a Dr Grabow "Van Roy" pipe for five bucks. I almost feel guilty winning these auctions.

    Yello-Bole Premier Estate

@huntertrw, I would say the bowl thickness is in proportion to its size at around 5/16". The shank is shorter then the Crosby pipe specs you quote at around 1 5/16". The five inch stem gives it a sleek look. I don't think it would carry well on the golf course, but not being a golfer I don't...

    Yello-Bole Premier Estate

I saw this pipe listed on ebay. What caught my eye was the Yello-Bole stamp with the old "propeller" log on the stem. It made me think the pipe could be a lot older than it looked. So I put a five dollar bid on the lot of two pipes and won them both. After getting the pipe in front of me and...

The Tinder Box Verona Corallo (Armellini?)

Here's my Verona. Doesn't look quite as attractive as webbb01's but it was my very first pipe back in the day. It's still in the rotation.

    Better Be One Heckuva Cob!

Well his dad liked it so much he never smoked it. Maybe that's not a filter in there but a rolled up hundred dollar bill.

    Posting Problem

I delete about half my post before hitting the "send" the button, particularly the ones that reveal an opinion. I realize nobody wants to hear about the cabin in Montana I'm going to build before writing my manifesto.

    Estate hunt pays off. PICS

Very pretty ducks now, not ugly at all! I understand why you like to find them in less than stellar condition. First, the price is usually really good because to most people they look pretty gross. Only you can see the beauty and value through the grime. Then the restoration process makes the...

    Great Great Grampa?

Most of my ancestors were farmers, miners or laborers. When the photographer made his rounds back in the day it was a big deal. They dressed up in their Sunday clothes and struck a pose. Here's an image of one of my wife's ancestors, Issac McNatt, an Ohio farmer who took up arms to save the...

    Potentially Controversial Opinion On Legislation...

That the minority should suffer or be deprived for the greater good is a false doctrine that has been around a long time and has historically been implemented in many different ways. The trap we have all fallen into is one where we have been made to believe that we are all reliant on each other...
