Gandalf's Staff Is His Pipe Holder

That is pretty cool. But it seems his staff lost the pipe holder when he became "Gandalf the White". A Kaywoodie white briar pipe might fit in there somewhere...

    Is Paper Dead?

We had a bluegrass jam at the house last night and everybody had their music on a tablet. Somebody would announce a set, there would be some tapping on screens, then music! Far cry from not that long ago when people would be carrying briefcases full of paper music and sorting through pages.

    Hand Buffing With Tripoli?

Before I bought a variable speed drill and some cotton buffing wheels I used both white diamond compound and carnauba wax by hand with fair results. It's just more work and takes longer. I had read Dave Whitney's book, "Old Briar" and followed his methods. He uses no power tools and gets very...

WDC Estate Fraternity Pipe - Phi Kappa Alpha

It will be interesting to read what somebody may have on this subject. I've got at least one estate Kaywoodie "campus" that may have been puffed between classes. You've got a great old pipe there! Pretty cool.

    Baer Bowl Pipe

Thanks for the clarification, kbaer. I see using Ancestry.com that the Abraham (Lincoln) Bear family is from Switzerland and settled in the Milwaukee area. Also saw a Rhynold and Amelia Baer living in Winnebago in the 1910 census which could be some of your ancestors. Genealogy and pipe...

    Baer Bowl Pipe

It was abused. However, it's condition has been stabilized, at least for the next 60 years. Trust me gigger48, I think I've contributed to at least two of the site sponsors since the original post! Sadly, my PAD is crazy out of control at the moment. I spent the weekend boxing up major parts of...

    Baer Bowl Pipe

Welcome to the forums, kbaer! It's great to see your post here with more information on the Baer Bowl pipe. It is a wonderful smoker and currently in my weekly five pipe rotation and even more prized now with this provenance. Please post a few pictures sometime of the pipes you have from your...

    Antique store score!

Your post inspired me to get out and check my local antique store. At first I only found a four pipe rack with a tobacco canister. I've already got a bunch of those, but for twelve bucks, well, why not another? I was walking up to the counter when I heard a voice calling me from a nearby...

Show Off Your Dr. Grabow Pipes Here!

Here's blasted Grand Duke I picked up chap from ebay. This is the first of its type I've seen. Subsequently, I've seen pictures of other sand blasted Dr Grabow pipes on the Grabow forum. Not a Grand Duke though. I think it's kind of cool.

Brebbia Pipes: What Do You Think?

toby67 The Iceberg is not a pipe I walk around the house smoking, but it is fairly light at just a tad over an ounce. It's got a nice wide, flared bit so it is easy to clench. The length could be a problem when doing close work. It does smoke really well with that spacious tobacco chamber and...

Hey, I live in Beaverton, Oregon! What kind of pipe am I getting? :D

My One Issue with Ebay is...

I've only had 159 transactions as a buyer on ebay and only had one problem when a seller cancelled my bid and the auction I was about to win. I felt like a rug had pulled from under me but apparently sellers are allowed to do that. Otherwise it's been a positive experiance overall. Once a seller...

Vintage CJC Pipe - Who Made 'Em?

I do like the cut of that pipe's jib. Simple, yet elegant. You are fortunate to have it.

Winter Is Here: Show Off Your Pipe Smoking Den

I have a heated room in our basement where I have a workbench for model building and pipe refurbishing. It also has a comfy chair, tray for my current pipe rotation, a radio and room enough for an adult beverage. This is also where I store I my burgeoning collection of pipes and tobacco.

Who Buys Brylon? How Bad Is It?

I now have two Medico Brylon pipes in my collection. If you buy them on ebay for less than five bucks you have yourself a pretty good disposable pipe. You can take it out on your next fishing trip and not worry about leaving it at the bottom of the lake. My only complaint is that they are...

    2 Estate Medicos

I imagine the paperclip worked just fine, but if you are going to be cleaning estate pipes often I recommend buying a dental pick at the grocery store. They are great for picking and scraping. I use mine on just about every pipe I refurbish. I'd sure like to see some pics when you are done...

    GBD Pipe worth restoring?

danielplainview might be able to do something with it, but it looks like it would need repairs beyond what I could do as an amateur. Are those exterior bowl cracks a sign of burn through? I'm suspicious of the stem condition. It almost looks like it's been spray painted black. The lack of wear...

I need help identifying these guys.........

I think we can rule Beethoven out. Here's his death mask for comparison. Internet searches lead to some interesting places. Masks of Famous Dead People Of course the pipe carving could be Beethoven as the pipe carving thought he should look. Artistic License, I suppose.

    My Ebay Estate GBD

I like the shape with the flared shank. Looks like it's in good condition too. A very nice find.
