    Awesome Antique Score (Again)

Take a look at this article on Dr Grabow "cleaners". Yours looks like one of the earlier patents. Link for Dr Grabow Cleaners

    What to Do After Acetone

buroak wrote: I went for almost a year without the variable speed drill I use now. So you can hand buff by applying the compound to an old tee shirt or rag. It just takes more work and more time. Give it a try sometime!

    Is this a Meerschaum pipe?

It's probably meerschaum, but isn't it more of a cheroot holder than a pipe? Maybe it doesn't make any difference but it might help narrow your search. Interesting that there is no stem or even a place to store one in the case.

    What to Do After Acetone

Usually after removing the finish with acetone I do some light sanding. Then buff with white diamond and then buff with carnauba wax. That Kaywoodie may need some sanding work to get at that stubborn lacquer.

Show Off Your Dr. Grabow Pipes Here!

Yes, ejames, I think the pipe could use just a few more leaves here and there! danielplainview, I'll join you in a supreme smoke in just a bit.

    J udd's Own?

I've bought from that seller a few times with no problems. I've got a Medico Jet Stream on the way from here. Hopefully my luck will continue.

Show Off Your Dr. Grabow Pipes Here!

Found me a Dr Grabow Supreme. I think it's a bit of an odd specimen with the oval shank and flattened bottom. Maybe from the sixties? I have to say, this one isn't quite as supreme as some of the other Dr Grabows in my collection. The briar quality is on the low side and the carving seems a...

    Rustic Hand Made Pipe

rigmedic1, which pipe are you referring to, the first one? That would certainly raise its status in my collection if it were from that era.

    Rustic Hand Made Pipe

I did put some Sutliff Blend No 5 in it last night. That antler stem feels very light and soft between the teeth. There was no antler taste at all as far as I could tell. The draw was too tight, but I think I can fix that. It's really too small to go into my rotation on a regular basis. I'm...

What Do You Value More? Pipe or Tobacco?

Newbroom, for me it's not exactly about art or an object holding its value. It's more of a snap shot in time or a nostalgia thing or a symbol of an era. I suppose there is a bit of "art" involved, though, as the design is representative of the time. Mid-century modern houses are sort of the "in...

    4noggins disappointment

This has happened to me with two other sponsor stores and yeah, it's disappointing, but it's only tobacco. (I keep repeating that as I pound my mouse on the table until it disintegrates)

Good things come to those who wait(Tom Howard Oom Paul)

I'd say if you can get a Tom Howard in any shape for under $30.00 you can't go wrong, so you did very well with that one. Congrats!

What Do You Value More? Pipe or Tobacco?

As an amature pipe collector, smoking is secondary to me. I'm more interested in the objects and the history and culture they came from. Tobacco is certainly part of that interest but I think compared to most people here I smoke them not very often.

    Rustic Hand Made Pipe

I'll fire up the antler pipe Friday night.

    What the heck is this?

My estate pyrolytic graphite pipe complete with monogram: One of my many "Rack Queens". Never smoked it.

When Not To Restore A Pipe

It would have interesting to try the briar dust/superglue trick on those fills. There's no way to completely cover those, but I think you could hide them pretty well after a restaining. The charred rim would have to be topped quite a bit, maybe making it not look like Pap's pipe anymore. The...

    Rustic Hand Made Pipe

Josh83, I don't see any indication of use. Looks like it was carved and set aside. The small metal ring was oxidized the finish was faded as if it had been sitting in a window sill for years. I have this other similar one with an antler stem. I haven't tried to smoke this one yet.

    Rustic Hand Made Pipe

I am occasionally "forced" to buy pipes found in lots purchased on eBay to get the pipe in that lot that I actually want. Sometimes there are some rustic, hand carved pipes in those lots. Most of them are pretty bad and often skunked with illicit substance residue. This one is an exception. It...

Taking Stock - Full Collection Pic

That LHS in the first picture in my favorite. I just won one on those on eBay a couple of days ago and am looking forward to receiving it. Is that a Tom Howard right next to it? Very nice collection!

What Do Pipe Smokers Do For A Living?
