    Dull to Shiny

Thanks JP! I've seen guys use both Caranuba and others use Bees Wax. From YouTube, Bees Wax looks easier to apply but will it get as high gloss glass-like shine as Carnuaba, or is it the other was around? btw, I do plan to use 1200grit before I start the wax polishing btw again, I don't have a...

    Dull to Shiny

jp, these are two different pipes. On the one I want to make shine, I used 600grit sandpaper, so as to just remove the outer layer of the pipe. I'll have to get some Carnauba, and read the rebornpipes write-up. Also, I'll have to check out a web-photo-hosting site... Thanks! Todd

    Dull to Shiny

Hi guys, I'm changing the color of one of my Briar pipes. I'm almost done sanding off it's original finish, and I plan to be putting a coat of Fiebing's Black Dye on it this weekend. I will probably let the dye dry for an entire day, is that long enough? and then I want to coat it with some...

    Looking for a LARGE Zulu

There is a beautiful large Zulu on eBay (Pipe Mimmo Provenzano 12 A6MP201 GRADE B Smooth Zulu Briar Handmade), slightly larger than the one I have, but at $200+ I think I'll keep the current one I have.

    Looking for a LARGE Zulu

Hi guys, I have arthritis in my hands, so I like larger sized pipes, and I am looking for a Zulu. I recently purchased a really nice Chacom Zulu off of eBay item # 371615760546 for $89, cool! I thought. When I got it, it seems smaller than what I thought it would be, however to the seller's...

My Tobacco Cellar-Oh How Times Flies

My problem (other than being a newbie who as of yet only likes about 6 different blends) with each paycheck, do I buy more bourbon, tobacco or 5.56 and 9mm ? The BATF loves me :)

Learning When To Dumb Out The Bowl, Signs Of Diminishing Returns

BassBug, yes I suppose to some degree the draw does become harder, which may indeed be over damping, but primarily less smoke comes through the stem unless I huff and puff and try to pull the house down (metaphorical language I admit), note, none of these comments apply to shag cut tobaccos like...

Learning When To Dumb Out The Bowl, Signs Of Diminishing Returns

The whole bowel or just the top half? I guess I'm looking for a balance between cheapskate flavor. Then again with an engineer mindset I'm probably way overthinking this. Probably at his point in my "career" of pipe smoking, I should just go for flavor and dump it all.

Learning When To Dumb Out The Bowl, Signs Of Diminishing Returns

(note that I still consider myself a newbie to the pipe) So after a point, the top half of the bowl will have white ash that seems to be suffocating the un-consumed tobacco that still lies waiting at the bottom of the bowl. I say suffocating because my observation is that re-lights become more...

Show Off Your Zulu, Woodstock and Yacht

What do you guys think about this one? It appears to have a larger outer diameter. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pipe-Mimmo-Provenzano-12-A6MP201-GRADE-B-Smooth-Zulu-Briar-Handmade-/302024540510

Show Off Your Zulu, Woodstock and Yacht

Need Help Sadly the Zulu that I bought on eBay (really nice Chacom) was smaller than it appeared. I have arthritus in my hands so holding smaller pipes is hard and hurts. So I'm looking for a Zulu with a bowl diameter of at least 1.75inches Thanks for your suggestions!!! Todd

How Could Someone Make Their Own Navy Flake

You guys are WAY overthinking this, but which may be helpful to other readers. My goal is to take a tobacco that I don't like the flavor of it, and make it something I do like, and maybe at the same time calling it a "Navy Flake" knowing well that the use of rum does not make necessarily make it...

Learning When To Dumb Out The Bowl, Signs Of Diminishing Returns

I'm cheap, and I want to get as much out of a bowl as I can. Is there a "rule of thumb" as to when to dump out a bowl and start a new bowl? or when I see white ash, I usually just cover it over with more and keep going, but sometimes I think I'm loosing flavor other times not. So what are the...

How Could Someone Make Their Own Navy Flake

Yep, toobfreak it's drowning in rum as I type and will be for two more weeks. Then I guess I'll bake it and let it sit out and dry for a while, then jar it up for a month or so and see... If it doesn't work out out well then I lost $1.50 on the bottle of rum, because I was going to toss the...

eBay Can Be a Dangerous Place
