    Open up the Bowl Diameter

If I dunk the stem in hot water to straighten it out, then open up the stem's air-hole then dunk it in hot water again, wouldn't I have seriously reduced the strength of the stem and made it far more likely to break?

    Open up the Bowl Diameter

I've "reshaped" a stem with hot water before, so I guess I'll go down that road first... I'll get back to you...

    Open up the Bowl Diameter

I would think that Stokkebye (whose been around a looong time) would have made it with the right sizings?

    Open up the Bowl Diameter

btw, it's got plenty of "meat" between the inside and outside of the bowl. sending it off to a pro would be the best solution, I agree, but I don't know that the pipe is worth putting more $ into, that's why I would like to give it a go... maybe with a Dremel?

    Open up the Bowl Diameter

It's a Stokkebye 4th Gen 1897 Dark Porter pipe, and it's never been a very good smoker. It's got the smallest bowl of all my pipes. I opened up the air hole in the shank and it got better (can't open up the stem's air hole), but still not as good as my others (although my 9" Canadian can be...

    Open up the Bowl Diameter

How Do I Bend a Stem

Here's a couple pics of it. The pics came out much darker that the pipe is really colored. The red line is an attempt on my part to indicate the original shape of the stem. can you guys see the pictures? my browser just shows an icon.

How Do I Bend a Stem

The water method worked perfectly! Filled a 2cup Pyrex measuring cup with water, stuck it in the microwave, and clicked brew beverage, put the end of the stem that I wanted to "unbend" in the hot water for 15-20 seconds took it out and slightly straighten it out using only the slight pressure...

Don't be Afraid to Modify your Pipes

jp, How come we're not seeing illustrations of this bravery?? [:)] Because posting pics on this forum are a PITA. Every other forum I'm on it's easy, super, super easy. Heck, some forums even have a link to post a pic directly from your own machine, not some URL that you have to load a pic up...

    What would you do

yea, I had to pick out a few dog hairs as I went :)

Don't be Afraid to Modify your Pipes

I don't even chuck them in a T-handle, although that's not a bad idea. I just turn them with fingers, only go up 1/64" and measure alot as I turn them. Oh yea, I also flatten the bottoms of several, not all, of my pipes. I liked them when they can sit flat should I not have a pipe holder handy.

    What would you do

What would you do if your getting ready to sit down and enjoy a few bowls of one of your favorite tobacco, then it got knocked over a spilled on the floor? Me, I scooped it up and but it in the pipe, enjoyed one of my favorites and could care less that it came off the floor, unless my dog had...

Don't be Afraid to Modify your Pipes

So far I have had 3 pipes that I've done a fairly significant modification and two others that I've taken a drill bit the stem and/or the shaken to open them up and let them breathe. The first pipe I modified is a beefy Italian Author shaped Rossi. I wanted a SUPER dull bowl, and after trying...

    What about the "Crumbles"

Ok, "Crumbles" is probably not the right terminology, but I don't know what is, too wet behind the ears? So I'm calling all the tiny little pieces of tobacco (about the size of dirt)that are siting at the bottom of the tin when the "big" pieces of tobacco have been taken out and smoked...

How Could Someone Make Their Own Navy Flake

So the "Great Experiment" failed :( But the total loss was only the $4 I spent on the rum, oh and the can of Chonowitsch which I was planning on tossing out anyways, and the several hours of bake time, but I don't mind that. All in all it was worthwhile, and if I thought I'd get different...
