Breaking in a new pipe that has stain inside the bowl

Just wipe it off with a strong alcoholic drink. I use a 117 proof gin.

    Scotch

I never cared for single malt. I drink JW double black neat or with a little ice, prefer Chivas when drinking beer.

    Painting an old briar

Do not use paint. It could ruin the taste. If you hate the finish sand it off by hand and leave it unfinished.

    Pacquio vs Mayweather

Though I am a fan of both fighters, I would like to see Manny win. That is very unlikely though. He would have had a real chance several years ago, but he has gotten older and lost some of his focus on boxing. His prime is past, his arms are too short and his dedication is not up to Floyds...

What is the chimney shape pipe good for?!?

For me this is not a good shape. The dottle becomes more foul tasting. I had a chimney and sold it.

What tobaccos did the great men smoke?

MaCarthur said he smoked whatever was at the PX. Basil Rathbone was Holmes for me. I can't watch anyone else in the role.

Does Anyone Never Disassemble Their Pipe?

I rarely take the stem off. The pipe has to be bad tasting for me to take it apart & clean with alcohol.

    Thoughts on Stanwell.

My first non drugstore pipes were Stanwells in the 1950s. I liked the shapes. They cost $18, which was only $4 less than a Dunhill, at the time. They were never really good, but were acceptable for a small smoke. I got a few several years ago. The best of those , made in Denmark, was OK but not...

    How to Avoid Tongue Bite

Put the bitten part, usually the tip of your tongue, against part of your mouth while dragging, preventing the smoke from reaching it.

What beers are you drinking with your pipe?

Don't drink much anymore, but just tried a great ale called Hoss. It was a draft. Similar to Bass.

Just Tried the New Balkan Sobranie Bulk

I smoked the original for 40 years and consider it one of the greatest blends. How does this measure up? Not well at all. It has a cheap Cyprian Latakia taste. The original used Syrian Latakia, no longer being grown. It may have been aged before blending. It tasted nothing like the Lat they use...

How often should a pipe be cleaned?

I use about 3 pipecleaners during each smoke. Other than that I never clean the pipes unless they start to taste foul. I have some pipes that have never had the stem removed except to remove the Dunhill inner tube.

    19 Year Old Bombay Court

Thanks Sable. I meant to ask why you have that name, sablebrush. I have worked with sable brushes for years, as a painter, watercolorist, for brush & ink and photo retouching, before photoshop.

I don't inhale but have chest congestion?

Inhale or not you do get smoke in your lungs. From the pipe and from the room. If it bothers you, smoke a little less.
