Winters here! So what's your favourite summer smoke?

Favorite smoke depends on the time of day more than the season. For me it is Bombay Court most times, some evenings Old Dark Fired, in a cob i like Stokkebye's Turkish 81.

    Old Grandad

Orley: Great to hear you are a Deardorff fan. I had many Deardorffs in my camera store, some of which I restored a little. My favorite was Deardorff serial number 6000, which I used for several years before selling it because the offer was too good to refuse. I ended up with an Ebony SV10UE...

    Turkish 84

Is a Stokkebye blend i was tempted to get this week. This is a mild subtle tobacco. It will benefit with some months or years of age. Tried half a pound. It is mild and very nice. I smoked 3 briars of it yesterday and a corncob of it right now. Ingredients listed are Virginia and Turkish. There...

    Asking for a pipe recommendation

That shape smokes well if you get a good, well aged piece of briar. It takes a while to break in and prefers a heavy or Lat mix tobacco.

What's the Most You Would Ever Spend on a Pipe?

Right now not too much. I have 186 pipes and do not need more. The one temptation would be a Dunhill 4303 Bruyere, new, from a country that is on Euros. I could use 2-3 of these. They probably would cost about $550.

    Old Grandad

For some reason. I have never, until today, wondered who was the old grandad of bourbon fame. This senior can no longer drink the rough whiskies, but it was my first regular college brand, along with Smirnoff, which, as the unsmelly drink, was good for drinking in class. His name was Basil...

    Dunhill "big three"

Flake is probably one, I have seen it as #1 in a sales list from smoking pipes.

    $3k Peterson (obo!)

    Probably smokes terribly.

    Petersons and quality?

I had a wonderful Peterson in the 1950s, so when I started replenishing the old pipe collection in this century I got about 3 dozen Petes, mostly high end. Some were good, some were terrible. I sold the ones I didn't like and now have 14 left. They do not and never will smoke as well as the...

    Churchwarden???

I have 5 Dunhill churchwardens. A good smoke for sitting around. A bit heavy though.

Why Is Syrian different from Cyprian Latakia And Could They Change It?

Maybe some of the new Syrian immigrants will start to make some here.

First Post: Dragged Kicking and Screaming Into Bliss

Lucky you. About 50 years ago I acquired a girlfriend because she loved the smell of my tobacco (Balkan Sobranie).

Sailing the Black Seas of Pretentiousness

Royal Yacht. The first half of the smoke is very good. Then it makes me sick. I will dedicate my next smoke to you. Well written.

What Kind Of Crazy Things Did You Do As Kids

Got really drunk at age 5. Started smoking cigarillos at age 12, pipes at age 14. Learned to drive at 12. Raced bicycles. Otherwise not much that I can remember, but it was a very long time ago.

Retaining a nice shine on polished burl

Waxing pipes ruins the taste until the wax wears off.
