Got a Strange Meerschaum, Any Ideas on ID?

So looking at the joint between the two spheres I don't think this was carved from one piece given the gaps. Or if it was, it has since been broken and repaired as indicated by discoloration around the connections.

    Best Pipe/Drink Combo.

Cogniac or Diplomatico Reserva with Banane Du Bresil on the rocks, or a Gin Mule. Both go great in the hot tub with a nice pipe!

Got a Strange Meerschaum, Any Ideas on ID?

Fascinating! That's almost half the weight. Is one of those block or pressed meerschaum? I wonder if pressed is lighter than block....... never really thought about that.

What's the Deal with Bowl Coatings?

I think, as many have stated, the coating is so you don't have to worry about the possibility of a burnout while you're getting your carbon layers built up to form a proper cake. Do you need a coating? Not really, it's more of an added protection and the risk of burnout is rare even without...

Got a Strange Meerschaum, Any Ideas on ID?

Not particularly, it's white in the spots where it's chipped and if I do the sticky test on the inside of the bowl it is a bit tacky, but nowhere near as much as my carved meer. The other thing I should say is that it's much heavier than that carved meer which is almost identical in size if not...

Got a Strange Meerschaum, Any Ideas on ID?

Hey all, I wasn't shopping for this pipe but it happened to be in a lot that I got and I'm a bit curious about it since there's no markings to my eye. I've posted an album at the bottom with every angle. I've never seen a pipe in this style/shape before so any info on possible dating or (long...

When Peterson's Is On Their Game, You Get This

I just got my first Peterson a few weeks ago and I have a love/hate relationship with it. It took a few tries to get the pipe shape I wanted without any flaws on it, which was a bit annoying, but the good folks at SP took care of everything. I love the design, the size, the shape, the fact...

    Determining Age of Pipe

Seconding pipephil.eu or pipedia.org for finding pipes with markings, but even then you're better off open sourcing it. I had a Cordoban that wasn't coming up in any searches until I stumbled across someone who had it in an old pipe advertisement book. I still don't have much on the history of...

If You Could Only Have One Pipe...

My Sportex is the only utterly flawless smooth pipe I've ever seen, with clear markings and not a single fill to be found anywhere on it. It also has a threaded metal tenon so I can break it down in-between smokes for cleaning, and it smokes like a dream too. Nice and bent for comfortable...

Do You Smoke Primarily with Nose or Mouth or Both?

So given that tastebud mapping is very much pseudo-science written by a German dude in 1901, Tongue map - Wikipedia - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tongue_map, I'd take the advice of inhaling to taste ALLLL the flavor of a blend with a big grain of salt. I like using the breathe method with a...

2020 West Coast Pipe Show Is On Halloween (now Cancelled)

Where did you see this? Show Info | West Coast Pipe Show - https://www.westcoastpipeshow.com/show-info/ From their site it looks like it's still going ahead, even though most of the conventions I've seen in Vegas are shut down until next month or early November.

Pipe Restoration Series #4: Cordoban Andelusian Made in Spain, Willard Imported Briar with Threaded Stinger, Italian Briar with Nickel Plated Band

Once again I find myself dipping into the estate buys! I'm really loving this hobby, finding these old bits of history and breathing life into them is such a fun pastime for me. Today I finished up 3 more pipes, one of them (my personal favorite) hailing from Cordoba in Spain! As always I'll...

Question: Air Humidity & A Lit Pipe

This^^^^^ I've taken my 9mm T. Christiano into a steam sauna, because that's how I roll sometimes, and while puffing away I notice more pronounced flavors with aromatics and less tobacco notes. Actually rum barrel aged Mississippi River is amazing in a humid environment from my anecdotal...

    Advice Needed On Aromatics

The way I see it, you can only pack a pipe so loose before you're going to have trouble lighting it never mind keeping it lit. Plus, no matter how loosely a bowl is packed it's going to get compressed with tamping along the way. There's definitely more experienced smokers out there that can just...
