    Beer and Pipe Smoking

Beer is good, but I prefer a Campari & soda with the juice of at least 1/4 lemon, with a pipe.

    Al Pascia Shipping To U.S.

I buy from them all the time. It is usually two days. Faster than most local shops.

Anyone smoking an E. Wilkes pipe?

A friend and I used to hang out at the Wilke Pipe Shop in the 1950s. Two daughters of the founder ran the business. They were like our grandmothers. The pipes were of varying quality, usually priced according to the grain. But there were errors I bought a bent apple with a perfect flame grain...

And We Brits Think You Yanks Are Bonkers.

We are not bonkers, we are, as a group stupid and complacent. Also lazy, rude, unpleasant, overweight and generally repulsive. We have a long way to go to turn into a decent group of people. Often our behavior is closer to monkeys than what we like to think of as human. This week I got suspended...

    Most Horrifying Painting?

Not horrifying at all. Somewhat amusing, actually. I have never seen a horrifying painting, because I always look at the colors, drawing and composition first. Sometimes I do not even notice the subject, which is the least important part of a painting. There is maybe one thing which horrifies me...

    Ben Wade Prominence? (pics)

Just saw a film in which Russell Crowe played a guy named Ben Wade. 3:17 to Yuma, I think it was called. Didn't smoke a pipe though. Now that I think about it, nobody in that film smoked or chewed. I guess they are trying to pretend we never existed.

Older estate pipes stained darker than new pipes?

Pipes darken with smoking. I have a 1957 or 58 Wilke that was a light beige. It is now dark tobacco colored brown. I may be wrong, but suspect the more aged pipes darken more quickly. Another example is a Peterson I bought on Ebay. It was a boxed set with a Zippo lighter. The pipe had Zippo and...

How Do Your Animals React To Your Pipe?

The only other animal here is my wife. The pipe smoke is unacceptable to her. I will not go outside to smoke. So we have separate houses.

    Packing and Lighting Help

Bonanza said it. I have been smoking for 61 years and still can't load a bowl perfectly. Just stuff it in, not too tight, not too wet.

Breaking in Period for basic Peterson pipes

Most Petes DO require extra break in time. I have been through several dozen, have kept only 14. Even those are no good with a subtle tobacco but OK with a strong tasting Lat.

How Do You Treat Your Pipe ?

Several pipecleaners during each smoke. That is it. If one gets old and stinky it gets a cleaning with a tasty alcohol. Most of them have rarely if ever been taken apart, except to remove the silly inner tube.

    Dunhill whatever?

Bizarre. The stem is upside down. Maybe it was made for someone who took a lot of sharp right turns.

    $2400÷ Charatan's Achievement on eBay

I bought 3-4 Charatans in the 1950s. They all had a red finish. Only the smallest gave a good smoke. Maybe because there was less wood to absorb the awful tasting stain. The big Charatans of that era were awful.

$200+- budget for new pipe... Ideas?

$200 is a border price. You won't get a great new pipe for that. Either spend over $300 or look for a good used pipe.

    Ben Wade Prominence? (pics)

I don't know about the Prominence, but I did have a Ben Wade for about 40 years. Terrible smoke. Great resale value. I sold it to a dealer for over 3 times the original cost.

    Dublin or Zulu

The Zulu must be slightly bent.

Show Off Your Cavicchi Pipes Here!

I bought one from Smoking Pipes. It was a beautifully shaped Oom Paul. The taste of the dark stain ruined the smoke. It was really awful. I sold it back to Smoking Pipes at a huge loss after removing the stain with Chartreuse 110 proof. It still was a terrible smoke.

    Help With Buying A Calabash

I only had one calabash, and it was over 50 years ago. But here is my two cents. They are difficult or impossible to clean inside the gourd and quickly become a sticky mess. Mine had a pressed meerschaum bowl. It was an awful pipe. I simply threw it out.
