Draw too tight, even after opening... solution?

Any suggestions on oven temp? May give it a tentative go. I am a cautious guy, so I have that on my side at least.

    Classic Aromas?

Interesting comments, all! I'd have to add that when I was a child, we had a lot of pine trees, which are rare but not nonexistent where I live. So when I do pick up a whiff of pine needles, it's quite nostalgia inducing. The same goes for Camellia flowers. I also have a someone nostalgic...

Draw too tight, even after opening... solution?

Thanks for the input, everyone. I'll weigh my options. I don't want to damage it, but it's not really worth anything to me as it is. On the other hand, I don't want to spend a whole bunch sending it off considering I didn't pay much for it in the first place and could just buy another pipe...

    McClelland Blending Perique, smoked straight

I have toyed with the idea of smoking straight perique for a while. Initially I thought I’d go the rum-soaked route, but I decided to just smoke it straight from the tin for the first time to develop the palate. I’ll preface this by saying that my go-to blends are all very high nicotine, bracing...

"Over"-Lighting Wet Blends for Better Flavor (As Opposed to Drying) ?

I've actually done this a bit, but didn't mention it for fear it was anathema in the wider pipe-smoking world.

Bought A Pound Of Ennerdale: What To Expect?

Thanks--on the bright side, it's great to see all you guys enjoying the road less traveled with these Lakelands and British plugs, ropes, flakes, except that now they are constantly sold out everywhere I look!

Just a little lakeland, but not too much.

Dark Flake Scented isn't too strong as far as Lakeland essence, but the underlying tobacco is one of the strongest as far as nicotine content. I've also heard that Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. Glengarry Flake is quite mild as Lakelands go (honey dew essence), but haven't actually tried it.

Draw too tight, even after opening... solution?

I bought a Stanwell pipe off eBay a while ago, and it's fine except the draw is way tighter than I like, and I just can't get it to smoke well. I know some like a tight draw, but I just can't keep anything lit in it, and I don't have this problem in any of my other pipes. I read articles about...

    Cornell & Diehl - "Exclusive"

Great review! I've wanted to try this because of the 50% perique. Glad to see someone who's not afraid to challenge the unquestioned sacredness of Escudo. :)

    Classic Aromas?

Exactly--he actually has a beard, so he applies it to this. A bit of irony as it's an "aftershave," but same end result.

Full flavour, strong latakia, strong nicotine blend like Nightcap!?

Well if you don't like perique, you don't like it. It's funny: I've had a similar question as you. It seems that there's always some blend that people claim can one-up another blend on flavor/strength. Strongest perique blend? Some will name C&D Exclusive, or whatever, but you can always go full...

    Gawith Hoggarth Black Twist Sliced???

Will do. To be clear: what I posted above is just a picture from another site; I don't yet have any of the Black Twist Sliced; I just had it in my basket. It could very well be that what they sent you was Black Twist Sliced and there's simply nothing more to be done. It's possible that the inner...

    Classic Aromas?

I find that a lot of the fond associations with pipe smoking are driven by nostalgia for many. Since smell is the sense most closely linked to memory, this makes sense. After smoking, my father will apply some of this aftershave--the Classic Clubman, presumably a similar scent to that used 200...

    Gawith Hoggarth Black Twist Sliced???

This is what it's supposed to look like. Jet black, and you can see a few coins in there. But who knows... what you describe doesn't really look or sound like black twist, but I suppose it could be.

    Gawith Hoggarth Black Twist Sliced???

That's bizarre. I was just about to place an order for black twist sliced, but I may wait a bit. Even if they got it right, what you describe is not what I'm looking for... I'd like a sliced rope.

"Over"-Lighting Wet Blends for Better Flavor (As Opposed to Drying) ?

I actually kept cutting them thinner and thinner until I think I got them a bit too thin. They were so thin it was like Five Brothers or something, and they didn't seem to smoke as well. I went back to a medium coin, still very thin--about as thin as an actual dime or quarter, but it seems to...

Full flavour, strong latakia, strong nicotine blend like Nightcap!?

Have you tried any really strong perique blends? The reason I ask is that Nightcap contains perique, while many Englishes don't. That could be what sets it apart for you.

Bought A Pound Of Ennerdale: What To Expect?

Quite glad to hear you enjoy the Ennerdale so much. It's always nice when we step out on a limb and are rewarded. hawky454, you seem to have a palate that is similar to mine. Have you tried G&H Black Twist Sliced? It's supposedly "similar to the Black Irish X except for the addition of...

Recreating the Original 3 Nuns - Perique + G&H Curly Cut? How Much?

Awesome work, timpiper! Whatever I came up with was delicious, but it does look like it's lacking the topping described in the earlier three nuns. It'd be great to have someone remake the exact original from those recipes.

"Over"-Lighting Wet Blends for Better Flavor (As Opposed to Drying) ?

Good to know others have done the same. I honestly didn't realize what a tough time I had with keeping them lit until I went off my rope kick for a bit and started smoking a lot of English / Balkan ribbon cut blends. I was suddenly like, "Wait. I only lit this once, and... now it's done?" It was...
