I recently received an order from pipesandcigars which included an ounce of black twist sliced but I'm not conviced it's what's in the bag. I was expecting a very dark blend (dark browns and blacks) and not so many lighter component leaves. I have and enjoy Brown no. 4 and thought this would look even darker and more like a twist that had been cut into coins and rubbed out. Also, I thought it would be similar in strength to the brown no. 4. I found there to be a hint of latakia which was unexpected as I thought there'd be a more pronounced dark fired flavor. Whatever it is, it's a great smoke. Rich, full flavored, and well balanced without being strong but tasted more like an English than I was lead to believe by reviews and photos I've seen online. Do any of you smoke black twist sliced and can you tell me if your impressions are the same? Any chance I was just sent the wrong blend? I will contact pipesandcigars for enlightenment. Thanks.

I'd expect a sliced twist to be in round coins, or at least long strings of tobacco. Odd, maybe it's a variety of the blend.

I called pipesandcigars and they attribute the lighter component leaves to variances in the blends but I think I got the wrong tobacco. Someone sent me a pic of their black twist sliced and it definitely looks different than mine - all dark browns and black.

That's bizarre. I was just about to place an order for black twist sliced, but I may wait a bit. Even if they got it right, what you describe is not what I'm looking for... I'd like a sliced rope.

This is what it's supposed to look like. Jet black, and you can see a few coins in there.
But who knows... what you describe doesn't really look or sound like black twist, but I suppose it could be.

@beastinview let me know if you do order the black twist sliced from pipesandcigars. I'm really curious about how varied the blend can really be. What I have looks nothing like the pic you posted or any other I've seen. It's only about $4/ounce. I wish they would have just sent me another ounce figuiring it wouldn't be much of a loss for them and be great customer service. Now I'm hesitant to place future orders with them.

Will do.
To be clear: what I posted above is just a picture from another site; I don't yet have any of the Black Twist Sliced; I just had it in my basket.
It could very well be that what they sent you was Black Twist Sliced and there's simply nothing more to be done. It's possible that the inner leaf isn't as dark as the outside of the twist, and the coins broke up. Part of the reason the twists tend to be darker is also because they are so moist. I think my GH twists and flakes have become a bit lighter as they've dried--soak any tobacco in rum or water and it'd look pretty dark. So it's possible that you've just received some that's a more reasonable moisture level and not the normal Gawith soaked level.
I really had my sights set on SG Black XX, and the Black Twist Sliced was a substitute. It was finally back in stock, but I was waiting until July's order for the old budget, and you fellas bought it all up! Same thing happened at SmokingPipes.
The ropes must be gaining popularity; it seems none of the U.S. sites can keep them in stock more than a week or two.

I have a swap arranged with someone. A couple of bowls worth of what I received for some of his black twist sliced. He sent me a photo and it looks like every other photo I've seen online. I'll update this thread after I've sampled his tobacco. I accept that there can be variations in how the blend presents itself in appearance due to level of moisture as you mention but the flavor really threw me off. I was expecting something more in line with Brown no. 4 rope and what I have wasn't very similar. Might be my inexperience with this tobacco. We'll see.

I always buy rope and cut it my self. This sure does not look like any coins I have ever sliced. Just my humble opinion...

Yeah, P&C did ya wrong... That's definitely not Black Twist Slice. I honestly have had a problem almost every time I order tobacco through them, they usually resolve the issue but it has definitely lead me to do my business elsewhere whenever possible. If I were you I would email them back and demand that they send you the proper blend ASAP. That is unacceptable!

Can't comment on what you received, but I personally will never again order bulk tobacco from P&C. One order was dust til I got it, and another bag wasn't sealed properly and was all over the inside of the box.

I guess the only way to be sure is to buy some rope and slice it up. I've made over 50 orders with free postage from P&C. Very happy with their customer service if I had an issue.

Yup. That happened to me, twice now. Opened up the box just to see scattered, dried out tobacco everywhere.
