The lakelands have my attention right now, and will likely be hoarding what I can with the looming tobaccolypse on the horizon just so that I can explore the unusual blends before they are unavailable

The lakelands will be fine and will be grandfathered in as they're all extremely old blends.

I see 1792 Flake mentioned above, and it is quite good, though a different direction than the other Lakelands. It does not have any floral essence that I can detect, but instead a sort of earthy tonquin bean topping. It's quite subtle compared to something over-the-top like Ennerdale, but it's great. To be honest, however, it strikes me as being from a different family from the other Lakelands I've experienced.

I'd suggest 1792 Flake,Conniston Cut Plug and Kendal Cream Flake for a lakeland love bomb chasingembers.
You do know that if I do that, I'm going to post it as "oldreddog's lakeland love bomb" don't you?

 chasingembers you'll be a lakeland lubber yet.
My barrack buster at the moment is Irish Flake with a little Bosun Cut Plug.

My wake up smoke has been ODF mixed with Black XX. Lakelands have added an all new weapon to my tobacco alchemy!

Six bowls in, and still picking out nuances. Just got a hit of clove for the first time on the retrohale. Ennerdale is now on equal footing with Black Frigate in my top spot. Really great blend!

Really like this stuff!

So glad you like it, man! That's the first real Lakeland I tried and ended up ordering a pound as well. After I fell for Ennerdale Flake I just ordered an ounce of everything GH&Co had to offer and went from there. My favorites are:
Revor Plug (Holy shite! This one has really grown on me and is somehow reminescent of Latakia in a strange way.)

Dark Flake Scented

Brown Flake Scented (Very different than Dark Flake)

#7 Broken Flake

Best Brown #2

Coniston Cut Plug

Bosun cut Plug

Glengarry Flake

Grassemere Flake

Kendal Flake

Samuel Gawith -Grousemoor (the most unique blend I've tried to date) - but I don't reach for it often.

Cannon Plug - Tastes very, very similar to Grousemoor, only in plug form.
They are all very unique in there own way but man oh man are they stellar!
P.S. I got a tin of Black Frigate on the way... will be here Monday!

I'd suggest 1792 Flake

And this is where things get tricky as I just don't consider 1792 a Lakeland. Yes, I know that it is produced in the Lake District but so is Full Virginia Flake and the like. In order for a Lakeland to be a Lakeland, in my opinion, it has to have the floral essence. 1792 does have a Tonquin essence but it's more vanilla-like than it is floral. Don't get me wrong, I love 1792, it's great stuff and I highly recommend it.

I have a feeling you'll really like Coniston Cut Plug. I think of it as the mix of Ennerdale and ODF.

Ennerdale is now on equal footing with Black Frigate in my top spot. Really great blend!
This is the second time you've made me really want to try Black Frigate. I'll have to put that at the top of my list when I make another order.

Quite glad to hear you enjoy the Ennerdale so much. It's always nice when we step out on a limb and are rewarded.
hawky454, you seem to have a palate that is similar to mine. Have you tried G&H Black Twist Sliced? It's supposedly "similar to the Black Irish X except for the addition of traditional English flavors such as licorice, maple and exotic Tonquin." Yet many of the reviews report no additional flavoring detected at all--including that of experienced reviewers such as pipestud. Usually the opposite happens--people report detecting Lakeland essence in blends that are supposedly unflavored. The fact that the reverse is happening--no Lakeland detected when G&H claims it's there--is quite amazing to me.
That said, if the flavors are onlylicorice, maple, and tonquin, it might just be something more like Rum or Maple Twist--i.e., a crude aromatic that really doesn't have much flavoring added. When I read "traditional English flavors" I always think Lakeland.
That's the funny thing about G,H&Co--when they make Lakelands, the flavor is over the top. When they make aromatics with more usual flavors--maple, rum, etc.--they are quite subtle.
EDIT: Maybe this is just an error on the P&C website: the smokingpipes website says Black Twist Sliced is just the sliced version of Black Irish X.

Sorry, Beastinview, I just now saw your reply. To be honest, the Black Twist Slice is the only GH&Co blend I don't like. I don't hate it but it completely lacks the characteristics that I enjoy about the Brown Twist Slice. I don't detect any toppings whatsoever. I have a hard time picking up on any flavors, it's very subtle, but the reviews that compare it to burnt meat are pretty much in line with what little I do pick up on.

I want to know what you think about it when you try it. I've actually been meaning to revisit it, I'll have to do that tonight. Ya never know, I might absolutely love it the next time I smoke it.
One blend that I highly recommend you check out is their Revor Plug. It is an amazing blend and I'm almost positive that you will love it! It took me me a few bowls to even really taste anything but once my taste memory knew what to expect the flavors became explosive and it's now one of my favorite tobacco blends. Unfortunately you have to purchase it over seas and GQTOBACCOS is the best place I have found to purchase it. If ya buy enough the shipping cost isn't too hard of a hit.

Thanks--on the bright side, it's great to see all you guys enjoying the road less traveled with these Lakelands and British plugs, ropes, flakes, except that now they are constantly sold out everywhere I look!
