    The Shift Key

My seven-year-old has starting writing in "text-speech." Bugs the hell out of me, but he's seven, and can't be expected to be too smart. Among adults, I think that a) everyone is occasionally guilty of typos, b) some people don't know any better and c) some people just don't care. It's the third...

    Smoking Grass

I love that bright, grassy/hay-like taste. Unfortunately, I have a hard time detecting it, so I over-puff and burn the heck out of my tongue. All my experiences with pure Virginia have ended in sadness... Poor me. :(

    The white knight hurts me

I had the same problem with White Knight and it's sister blend Black House. They both smoke best on the dry side for me, but I have to smoke them very slowly, and just accept a lot of re-lights. I never did get to where I could completely trust either one, so I finally just stopped trying. I'm...

    How dry are you?

chasing, Yep. I'm pretty sure that it was a post from you that first told me that. It's a great technique!

    Alternate Use Of Pipe Cleaners

My son twists them into little people to use as action figures. I promise I'm not too cheap to buy him toys. He just loves his little "pipe cleaner men!"

    How dry are you?

"Just right" does vary by blend. All I can say for sure is that "just right" is (for me) quite a bit more dry than I thought it should have been when I first started. I spent quite a bit of time re-hydrating tobaccos that were already far too wet, and paid the price in tongue bite.

    I Hate Billie!

I moved six years ago, and made sure I had my internet hooked up day one. I had every intention of getting satellite, and maybe an over-the-air antenna, but never got around to it. What little TV we watch today is streamed from Netflix or Amazon. The advantage is that I've almost forgotten how...

    Russ Ouellette discusses Perique

Cool. Russ's last name starts with a "w" sound. That is definitely not the way I was saying it in my head.

    Ghosting Experiment

Stan, I've done the same experiment, except with briar and using Prince Albert as the follow up. Maybe I just don't have a sufficiently developed palate, but I could only detect a little ghosting during the first half of the follow-up bowl. Therefore, I stopped worrying about ghosting at all...

Elegance and grace, a female pipe smoker.

I know some women. Hmmm... There seems to be a remarkably high correlation between those who do not smoke pipes and those who do not want to be in a relationship with me. Bummer.

Pipe makers that use water glass to coat bowls?

Damn. I wanted to make a follow-up joke about dihydrogen monoxide in response to zack (that stuff can KILL YOU!), but I wasted a lot of time and now two people have posted between zack and me, so it would look dumb and out of context. Stupid intermediary posters messed up my joke, grumble...

    Favorite Burley/Perique Blends

I'll add Firestorm and Three Friars as well. Lots of good suggestions!

    Favorite Burley/Perique Blends

leacha, I haven't tried Night Train, but it sounds wonderful. I'll add some to my next order. I like Freight Train quite a bit, but not as much as my current favorites. pitchfork, I have been blending cube-cut Burley with the granulated Perique. I've tried it in several proportions but what I...

    Rogue One: Feminist Revistionist Crap

Oh, yes! Remember, every time Hollywood hires a black actor, that takes food right out of the mouth of an honest, hard-working white guy! LOL Yeah, using "bitches" was a particularly well-thought-out insult in a sexist rant. Almost guaranteed to help get your target audience on your side...

    Rogue One: Feminist Revistionist Crap

Step 1: Someone posts sexist rant. Step 2: Other posters disagree with sexist rant. Step 3: Other posters are called "Herd-minded, PC weasel, FDA-supporting losers." (A paraphrase) Step 4: This is justified as NOT trolling, just reasonable discourse. Wow. Just wow.

    Favorite Burley/Perique Blends

Over a year ago I had convinced myself that I was allergic to Perique. Turned out that I love Perique so much that I consistently over-puffed and got lots (and lots) of tongue bite. Ow! Six-seven months ago, having learned (finally!) to slow down, I started smoking it more and more, until, now...

    Savinelli Filter Adapters

I'm home, and smoking Haunted Bookshop in a Savinelli 413 quarter-bent Dublin Sitter (Dang, that's a long name!). I put the adapter in and it's smoking fine. It's cool and dry, but it typically always is, while the 622 from earlier always tends to smoke wet. Really not a fair test, using a...

    Savinelli Filter Adapters

I just finished a bowl of Engine #99 in my Savinelli 622 Bent Pot. Gurgle, gurgle, gurgle... I do like a very open draw, but maybe the additional space in the shank does leave a place for moisture to accumulate. I had been thinking of it as a very tiny reverse calabash! LOL Keep sending advise...

    Savinelli Filter Adapters

Reading another thread, someone posted something along the line of "If you're smoking a Savinelli without a filter, you really need to use the adapter." Why? I own mostly Savinelli and Rossi pipes, and I used the free adapter once, and found that it made the pipe not want to pass a pipe cleaner...
