    Produce More Smoke ?

I get what you all are saying, and I agree. A pipe just won't work that way. I just felt like a few folk forgot that new guys are... well, new! Explaining that pipes work differently is cool and helpful. Expecting him to already know that is not so much. I used my own experience as an example...

    Pint size

I've just started cellaring, and I generally get 8 ounces in a quart jar. More if it's pressed in some way. A tiny bit less if it's really loose. I'm gonna guess a pint will hold =/- 4 ounces.

    Produce More Smoke ?

I think a lot of it is previously learned expectations. I had no pipe smokers in my family, but watching my father blow smoke rings with a cigarette is a favorite childhood memory. I smoked cigarettes and cigars for years before I picked up a pipe. To me, smoking MEANT smoke. It was expected...

    pipe went through washing machine

I washed one, also. I did let it dry naturally, but it's fine.

Its A Hobby, Not A Habit

"Not a habit," Hmmm? Can you REALLY quit any time, or are you just TELLING yourself you can? I'm just being silly. Seriously, congratulations on your beautiful little one!

Can Nicotine Be Good for You?

I'm not gonna touch the addiction question. Feelings are already running a little high. I will point out some things that might help keep things on a more even footing. 1) Withdrawal discomfort is only one of many symptoms of addiction, and not all drugs produce it. 2) "Physical vs...

    Pastors and the Pipe

I'm a psychologist, rather than a pastor, and I left practice to teach and do research many years ago. When practicing, I let people's pain and "brokenness" weigh me down. I turned to alcohol, drugs and heavy smoking of cigarettes to cope. 18 years free of mind altering substances, and a bit...

    Google's "SkyNet" Robots

True on both counts! I just wanted to post a pro-technology stance in anticipation of the rabidly anti-tech, anti-science rants I was expecting. Which never materialized, so now I'm kind of embarrassed.

    Google's "SkyNet" Robots

Technology is bad. My computer is powered by fairy magic and I wait for accidental lightening strikes to light my pipes.

    Ropp Pipes, Opinion?

I have two Ropp pipes, a Rhodesian and a Bulldog. Both are great smokers, and extremely lightweight for their size. My only complaint is that both mine are quite small. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another, but I'd pay very close attention to the dimensions.

P&C 15% Off and Free Goodie Box IPSD Sale

I wasn't fast enough to get the goodie box. I had a lot of mid-semester paperwork to get done, and it was sold out by the time I logged in to place my order. Damn work. But... I still got the 15% discount.

    Women You Gotta Love Them

My wife was a nurse. Not a WWII nurse, of course, but she was a strong, capable and kind person, nonetheless.

    Tins, Cans, And Jars

ssavarimuthu, This morning I smoked a bowl out of a 3.5 oz tin of FM Cellar that I had originally opened in June. It was fine. In fact, I felt it was still a little wet for my tastes, though I do tend to smoke dry. It had certainly lost SOME moisture over the past 7 months, but very, very...

Do Mason Jars Need To Be Steralized Before Use?

Cool. Maybe I've been over-thinking this. I'm learning a lot, though!

Do Mason Jars Need To Be Steralized Before Use?

And thanks, Aldecaker. That makes sense, too.

Do Mason Jars Need To Be Steralized Before Use?

Thanks, Michael. I kind of assumed that to be the case but I'm glad that at least some others think so, too.

Do Mason Jars Need To Be Steralized Before Use?

I've decided to get serious about cellaring, as opposed to just "keepin' it fresh 'til I smoke it." I bought a 12-pack of quart sized, wide-mouth Mason jars, with the plan of running them through the dishwasher on a hot setting, without any detergent, assuming that the end result would be close...

    Hello

Welcome, Loyd. My family all smoked cigarettes. My grandfather had a lot of empty cigar boxes, so he must have smoked them at one point, but I only remember cigarettes. I picked up a pipe first in college, because I thought they were "cooler" than cigarettes, but I never stuck with it until...

    Are You Brand Conscious?

I've had a lot of bad luck buying pipes online. Partially because of not actually knowing what I wanted from a pipe, and partially from being cheap and always buying whatever was on sale at the time. The first pipe I bought that really met all my needs was a Savinelli. Because of that, I've...

    Pipe Tool-ish

I have something similar. It's a pile of tins and jars on my workbench, with the ones I like closer to the front, and the less-loved blends slowly pushed toward the back. Hmmm. Actually, that's not similar at all! Seriously, excellent work!
