COVID and Lack of Tobacco Taste

I lost completely my taste for tobacco as well, so I had to quit pipes for a few weeks. I started taking snuff (somehow I could smell snuff better) and went back to pipes like two months later... And not leaving them again haha

    Zippo for Pipes

I have my pipe insert Zippo and it's great to use outdoors: no more worrying of wind situations! I don't find the smell too anoying, but my only issue is that it seems a bit harder to light the pipe than with a regular lighter

    Why dry?

Most of the moisture that comes with the tobacco is, aside from water, glycerin, PG and flavorants of some sort. I don't like to smoke any of those so I like drying them out a bit. But, is it is too dry, it can burn hot and taste stale. So you have to find the nice spot.

    Nicotine….

SG Black XX is really good, although I don't find it that strong. Brown No.4, however, made me put the pipe down.

    Sweet Burley

Aged Burley Flake and Wessex Burley slice are very good. Maybe not too sweet. For something sweeter, Nutty Irishman is good (and I don't like aromatics often).

    Do You Clench your Pipe?

I try to change sides for health issues as well, but I always end up clenching in the right side. It seems to be more comfortable for any reason, but what you say is not to ignore.

    Question on Casings

Hi Joe. For flue-cured, I like: 50ml water 1 teaspoon honey 5-6 lemon drops For burleys, dilluted molasses or liquorice works wonders. But I have used these to correct issues with the tobacco, not for mold. For mold, storing in low case has always worked for me.

    Fresh Virginia Blends

Opening night is really really good. I also liked Virginia Gentleman from C&D. If you consider vapers, GLP got a few that are very nice.

    Let’s Talk Aromatics

No? I notice a sweet berry-like aroma in the tin that I thought it came from a flavoring agent.

    Let’s Talk Aromatics

Aromatics don't do it for me most of the times. Even blends that aren't aromatics but has some toppings, like Capstan or Hal O The Wind, I find annoying. However, I enjoyed Readdy Rubbed and Revelation, some liquor toppings like Windjammer, or other flavored stuff like Black XX and Bracken...

    Tobacco Blend of your Dreams

A Samuel Gawith that stayed lit would be a nice dream blend.

    Tordenskjold Virginia Slices

All of these taste very artificial to me. I enjoyed some of their English blends and that's it. Ascanian was alright too. But i find C&D's approach completely different, in that they use very little casing so you get to taste the tobacco.

    Whole Leaf Beginner

It doesn't have to be dry. It will be fine as long as it is in low case (dry feeling but doesn't crumble when handled). If you apply a casing, then dry to low case, it should be fine. But I guess it makes more sense to just case what you are going to use.

    Esterval's English/Balkan blends

Maybe Dan Tobacco's? I don't know if they are available in the US, but their English mixtures are quite good: London Blend, Gordon Pym and Old Ironsides (if you like dark fired).
