Relights - Maybe it’s just me
I no longer worry about relights, but I'll dump the ash if the pipe isn't staying lit and there is a thick layer of ash after smoking a good amount of the pack. I've never had any issues with an ashy taste.- Briar Tuck

Indeed. They purposefully darken the rims on some meers. The black rim on my Pioneer meer, for example, was applied and not from smoking.- Briar Tuck
