What Is The Most Repellent Blend?

The only blend I've tried that I found absolutely repellent was Old Joe Krantz. I know a lot of people on here swear by it, and I do enjoy stronger Burley blends from houses such as Gawith, etc., but OJK tasted like moldy leather to me. I'll revisit it at some point, because both tobaccos and...

***What Are You Smoking, January 2021?***

Currently enjoying a mix of 50/50 WC Deluxe Crumb Cut and Gawith Dark Bird's Eye in an MM Cob. Sitting on the patio having a cup of coffee. It's a stellar combination! I love these two blends on their own, but they also compliment each other very nicely when joined together in a bowl.

    Briar Dedication for Lakeland Blends

A recent thread on pipe dedication, along with the recent Gawith drop, has me thinking: For those who smoke Lakelands out of briar, how do you dedicate pipes to these blends? I currently have one briar I dedicate to stronger Lakelands, and I use it to smoke Bosun, Coniston, and Dark Flake...

    Dedicated Pipes

My pipes are hard working and dedicated! Seriously though, I generally dedicate my briar pipes to general blend categories. I have a few (3-4) dedicated to Latakia blends, a couple dedicated to Burley-based blends, and the rest dedicated to Va/VaPer/VaOr blends, which comprise the vast...

    How Cold Is Too Cold?

These days, anything under 60 feels chilly if the sun isn't out. My pipe tolerance is probably 40 F, as long as there isn't any wind. However, my blood has thinned considerably from living in Arizona for the past four years. Back when I lived in MN I would smoke cigars in -10 F weather regularly.

    Threw My Back Out

Man, I've been there, done that. At the very least you have a reason you threw it out. Most of the time for me I have no idea what I did to make it happen. The worst was when I was 30 and it began hurting on the first day of a cross country road trip. I could stand with little pain, I could...

Gawith Hoggarth Has Dropped - Jumping In or Waiting It Out?

It's strong alright, but really tasty. I also think that DBE is one of the components Ken Byron uses to blend Mycroft, which I believe is one of your fav KBV blends (and one of mine too.). I'm hoping this drop and the (hopeful) continued availability of Gawith will mean the release of more...

Gawith Hoggarth Has Dropped - Jumping In or Waiting It Out?

I bit. Yeah the bulk prices are high for bulk, but they're still a pretty good value compared to tin prices. I picked up a number of blends. A couple that I have tried and wanted to stock up on, and a number that have never been widely available since I began pipe smoking in earnest 18 months...

    Gawith Drop Now!

Yep as well as Bosun Cut Plug. They're both great, but Bosun is my favorite Lakeland (so far).

    Gawith Drop Now!

Many long out of stock Gawith, Hoggarth, and Co blends are currently in stock at SPC. Get 'em while you can! They'll go fast (Bosun plug went out of stock and disappeared from my cart while I was finishing my order). Enjoy, all you granny panty sniffers!

***What Are You Smoking, January 2021?***

Enjoying the rare pre-10 AM smoke with a bowl of KBV Mycroft and a cup of joe. Another beautiful day in Tucson!

    How Often?

Generally 1-3 bowls a day. First one is often after breakfast with a cup of coffee, usually a Va/VaPer or Burley Blend, sometimes a light English. Then one in the mid/late afternoon, or while we're walking the dogs, usually VaPer or VaOr but other blends such as Lakelands make appearances as...

    Howdy from Colorado!

Welcome from your four corners neighbor, Arizona! Nice state you've got there. I've spent a number of weeks vacationing in the San Juans. Just lovely country!

Midway Pipe Filling - "Ethical Question"

I do this on occasion, but only when out and about. I'll usually dump the ash from the top first. Sometimes I want a little more than one bowl, but don't have time for an entire second bowl. With most blends, I don't find it affects the flavor at all. And now that I know it's unethical, I'll...

What are You Drinking? (January 2021)

Currently having a St. Germain (Elderflower liquor and Champagne) with the leftover bubbly from last night. I don't usually like sweet cocktails but this is a good one.

    Who Else Loves Old Gowrie?

I like OG quite a bit. HOTW and Marlin Flake as well. Marlin Flake, however, is the one I have chosen to cellar of these three. There's a rich sweetness to Marlin Flake that I don't notice in the other two. I have, however, never been disappointed when OG or HOTW are in my pipe.

Drying, Packing, and Cadence Technique Question

I wouldn't. I find that Latakia can leave a bit of a ghost, so your molto dolce might taste a bit smoky. I don't dedicate all my pipes, but I definitely dedicate my Latakia pipes. However, everyone has a different preference in this regard, so YMMV.
