At first you'll think it's almost exactly like Early Morning probably. When you smoke them more you'll be able to tell the difference. So yeah they're very very similar. I settled on Balkan Sabranie 759 as my go to English. If you're wanting something way different, I suggest also exploring...
Definitely try English and Orientals they are very different.
But to answer your question, no they're not all the same, but most are because they have that distinct sweet black Cavendish that comes through. But some do have a topping that's more unique.
Humidity disk are awful and can cause mold. Don't do it. I keep my pipe tobacco in a jar with a sealed lid and thats it. If you must use Boveda pack but go lower than the cigar percentage.
I really like the stubby. If you didn't like the Dagner you might not like the Stubby. Same stem (just different color) and about the same weight and bowl size.
I like the Dagner. Stem fitting is lose and crooked. But for a 30 dollar pipe it smokes good. I have a stubby and the stem fits it better.
I get your love for that first pipe. unfortunately my first pipe was a cheap Asian pipe that I had no problem throwing away. Enjoy your revamped pipe...
I like the open draw of cobs. I have more control over the draw with how I pack it. My Peterson has a snugger draw; I always pack it loose. I also tamp it a lot lighter.
Not saying I would pick up a cob over a Peterson, but I ain't hatin a cob draw.
The only pipes I think need breaking in are cobs because of the bottom of the bowl taste ehh for a while. And Peterson uses a weird coating that doesn't taste good to me for a few bowls. But all I do for those is not smoke anything spectacular in them until that taste is gone.
Deer tongue as others mentioned. It's definitely different. As mentioned above, Gentleman's Caller is a good one. Smells like a Little Debbie pumpkin roll, taste like a new leather jacket smells. Sounds odd, but works.
I used to notice a difference until I caught on to how to perfectly pact my pipe everytime no matter what the cut was and by telling how wet it was. Just my experience though. I don't notice a difference anymore. I just reach for the tobacco I'm in the mood for, and what pipe I think fits the...
I actually think you're right. We're already seeing it with young people switching back to flip phones. Everything makes a come back and the pipes over due. I myself switch from cigars to a pipe and to try to off cigarettes So theres that point you made too.
