On one occasion, while walking a local trail and smoking a pipe, I stopped and sat on a bench to relax for a few minutes. There was a slight breeze blowing in the direction of two women who were approaching. One lady said as she was walking by, I love the smell, it reminds me of my grandfather. It was an aromatic I know that much, but I can't recall if it was 1Q or Captain Black. That's the only time a woman has commented on my pipe's aroma.

The only other comments I get are from my buddy that I hang out with, and we'll occasionally comment on the aroma of whatever one of us is smoking.

Yep. I get that with Half and Half. Smells like Grandpap.

She said she loved it; because, the room note reminded her of cookies baking in a hot oven.

Aromatics are always safe, and I get compliments when out. The only English blend that allows me to avoid the side eye and get positive comments on is Presbyterian. Yeah, its the grandpa comment. No matter to me because at my age and appearance I am now relegated to the ladies with a Santa fetish, I will take it.

When people react to the scent of my pipe smoke, the feedback is almost always positive. Not sure I've noticed any gender-specific trends or correlations. Way back when I was a beginner, my mom and sister loved it when I smoked 1Q. Just after I'd finished a bowl of Molto Dolce in the garage, our neighbor's son asked where the smell of ice cream was coming from. Each time I stepped back in, I detected strong hints of sweet pastry.

As for after-odor, aromatics naturally leave a less assertive essence than, say, Englishes and other really earthy tobaccos. I had a couple of (romantic) partners who told me they liked the "manly cologne" they detected after I'd smoked a bowl or two of 1Q or BR. One didn't actually know I smoked pipes at the time; both went out of their way to enjoy the aroma whenever I fired up a bowl.

My wife says that Alexander Bridge "has a pleasing smell." That’s the only one she ever said that about.

I smoke full English and DFK blends inside and my girlfriend thinks they smell great. She describes them as campfire or smoked ham. Usually when she has a negative reaction, it's a perique-containing blend. I'm not big on perique for the most part, so no biggie there.

English's is not a favorite with the ladies.

With one exception:
Boswell Northwoods.
Smells like toasted marshmallow, campfire, and vanilla cologne. Women love it.

My wife does not like the smell of pure cigars at all, nor the blends with latakia. She does tolerate some virginia tobaccos, or aromatics based on virginias.

My wife loves when I smoke Virginia Flakes (about all I smoke). but what I've noticed she really likes is Burley. I only smoke maybe a few bowls of it per week. But when I smoke something like Cobblestone Hiking, Pegasus or OJK, she always stops to say how much she likes the smell. I found this quite surprising.

For some reason Lane BCA gets the most comments from strangers about how great it smells . . .and then followed up by “reminds me of grandpa.”
Autumn Evening is another nice one. Usually someone says they smell pancakes.

Oh, that's just a funny line in the commercial! An (apparently beautiful) Italian woman walks up to a fellow smoking his pipe filled with Molto Dolce. She ends up with the pipe. Pretty funny stuff.

YUP!!! The tongue burn is intense, though the room note is subtle and sweet.
