Do you Keep Records/Details of the Pipes in your Collection?

Not only no, but HELL no. That would be akin to hand delivering a database to my wife titled "motive". I find it better to just let myself be pleasantly surprised each time I rediscover a pipe or tin that I forgot I had from time to time.

    Missouri Meerschaums vs. Everything Else

Another possibility to consider is the pipe bowl isn't causing the off-putting flavor, but the stem/mouthpiece. I've had more than a few vintage pipes that give off a sulphury/ashy taste from the oxidation of the vulcanite or whatever material it is. Once the oxidation is mitigated, the pipes...

    Missouri Meerschaums vs. Everything Else

With nightcap, lots and lots of nightcap.

Silicone Wipe Down or Just Go Wax?

I'd only consider using silicone oil on the stems. I'm not a huge fan of silicone in wood. I have no real examples of where that combination has had any issues, I just prefer wax for pipes and neat's-foot or tongue oil for gunstocks.

What is Your New Year's Pipe Resolution?

I hope to transition my cellar from mason jars to mylar bags for mid to long-term storage. This is going to create 100s of empty jars so that should be fun to deal with. I also want to bag and seal all of my square tins, I can't bear the thought of opening them just for ageing, so I'm going to...

What are You Listening to - Jan 2022

Last night I was on a Beat Farmers kick in the background while cleaning a deer at our lease. RIP Country Dick Montana!

***What Are You Smoking, January 2022?***

It's the last weekend of regular whitetail season in my part of Texas so I'll be headed to the lease shortly. I imagine my first pipe of the year will most likely be some 2017 Vintage Dunhill Nightcap from before Peterson completely changed the blend (a little joke to start the new year):)

    Drying Before Smoking

I've got a 2 yr old and 5yr old at home so the wife is a HUGE fan of me leaving tobacco out to dry! On top of that, the humidity has been hovering between 70 and 90% so I don't know man, I just don't know lol.

    Traditional New Year

What happened to sienisalaatti and Marskin ryyppy? I can't stand mushrooms, but I always bring a bottle of that or koskenkorva to kick of the start of Deer season.

    Have Tobacco Prices gone up?

Well fine, back when we could get a box of 28ga hi brass #5's for $6 lol. It was my go-to for pheasant and quail growing up in Kansas.

How do You Know it's a Quality Pipe ?

100% this. I prefer a looser draw so for me, a cob is about as good a smoker as one can get. If you're starting out, focus on what works for you, the rest will follow.

    Have Tobacco Prices gone up?

    Or a brick of .22 for $8!

    Have Tobacco Prices gone up?

I can't remember where I heard it and I know I'm not smart enough to have said it first but "tobacco will never be cheaper or more plentiful than it is right now". Controlling for the odd sale or fad demand for the usual boutique blend, I'd put that statement right up there with death and taxes.

    Ebay Purchase with Tobacco Included

I wouldn't ask the seller anything through the Ebay platform. Mentioning tobacco is probably flirting with getting both accounts locked. I just looked at my crystal ball and it told me the jar and rack in question was grandpa's. When he died some years they boxed all his stuff and it took a...

Tobaccos Like Peterson Deluxe Navy Rolls?

Peter Stokkebye Luxury Bullseye Flake after it's been aged for 4 or more years. It's relatively inexpensive, readily available in bulk, and well worth cellaring. Personally, I wouldn't recommend it fresh.

Tobacco for Breaking in a New Pipe- Suggestions!

I try to keep my latakia pipes separate from my VA/VAPERs but that's about it. I don't smoke hardly any aros so on the rare occasion I do, it's in a cob.

Consistently Inconsistent Warning Labels in the US

Probably because It's cheaper to set up the labeling infrastructure once with the "ugly" label rather than pay the setup costs for 2 or more labeling runs. It's not a violation for any market to have the label included, but the inverse is not true. Any diversion from a standard process or...

Aromatic Blend that has Depth and Complexity.

I'd throw in Sillem's Linea Epoque Antique for consideration. There's no latakia in it so the room note is usually considered more pleasant to non-smokers.

    Buying Tobacco: How Old?

Not sure if this applies to tobacco inventory, but unless they are specifically holding product to age or some got misplaced in a move or by accident, FIFO is the standard management approach. First In First Out.
