I enjoy reading about pipes and tobacco but I can't imagine taking notes.
No spreadsheet, excel, diagrams etc for me, that would feel like work rather than
enjoyment and meditation.

Hmm, this would erode the simple joy found in smoking a bowl of whatever “strikes my fancy”. I prefer a spontaneous selection of tobacco and pipe. Now
don’t get me wrong, I can see how this could be rewarding to some people. I do have a compulsive part of my personality and have really resisted allowing it to creep into my pipe smoking.
They’re other disciplines which require such fastidious records like brewing beer at home, reloading ammunition and homemade cheese. ?

I keep a piece of notebook paper tacked on the inside of the door of the cabinet I keep my pipes and non-tobacco pipe stuff. I just write the brand, model, date of purchase, and price paid. I mostly do it in case my boys pick up the habit, er, hobby one day and would like to know what’s been passed down to them.

Because of my pipes being very personal little treasures i do keep record of them when I bought them,in which state, price and aprox .age (the year they been made),very rarely what has been smoked in them...I do keep the same record of my guns, cowboy hats, cowboy boots ,bowie knifes, guitars etc...I wish the person I am buying from would tell me some history of the item I am buying...Most of people does not keeping records...

I wrote a database app so I can keep track of where my pipes are located, what I smoked in them, etc. I have a large collection of pipes and tobacco stored in bins, bags, locations, etc. Helps me find what I’m looking for since most my pipes are boxed and kept in closets or shelves.

I don’t dwell on keeping track though. The app was just to make it convenient to find stuff.

I maintain a spreadsheet with descriptions, date acquired, provenance, price paid, etc. etc. as well as well as a photo imbedded on each one. I keep it with my important documents.

I figure I am not going to live forever and with my idiot kids (well, idiots in their knowledge of pipes...), they would just stick them on a yard sale table for 5 bucks each and inevitably someone on here would be starting a thread about how they got an Ivarsson or Knudsen or Bang or etc. etc. for just 5 bucks at a garage sale put on by a bunch of idiot kids.... puffy

I keep track of my pipes on a piece of paper to know where I purchased them, when I purchased them, what I payed for them and the chamber size. I have every pipe on the paper in the order I purchased them. It's not needed but just something I wanted to do. I don't keep track of my tobacco.

Too much work for me. I know what's in the pile, and the very rare pieces are documented. It's like I wrote on a thread about tracking one's cellar. Why ruin the mystery?
For real. I gave up on entering stuff into a database it feels too much like work. To what end? If your cellar is somewhat organized you can easily just see what’s there.
