In Search of Pipe Dreams, rev2.0

Just began a re-read of ISOPD and agree that it has held up well through the years. It’s like talking with a down to earth rock star - but in the pipe world ? He doesn’t need me to be impressed, but has some great stories and experiences. @sablebrush52 link is gold. Also, subscribe to the NASPC...

How do you Spend Time with a Blend?

Over a decade ago I found myself in the “too many open tins/jars” scenario and decided to apply some parameters. I “need” variety, but wanted to understand blends more fully, so for the past 10yrs +\- I’ve kept a 10 open blend rotation. At an average of 2 pipes a day, I’m finishing a tin and...

    Drucquer & Sons: First Amendment

I have not committed to the purchase of a tin, but have enjoyed the Drucquer blends I’ve tried so far. That said, a tin of First Amendment was opened and shared at the October meeting of the Low Country Pipe Club - my own observations - and the general consensus was that we enjoyed the smoke...

***What Are You Smoking, November 2021?***

My favorite time of year for the pipe - and a season where I seem to get the most nuance from my tobaccos. Fortunately my tin rotation has a number of open spots, so I’m diving into the deeply aged section! Yesterday I spun the lid off of some 2012 Westminster Superior Navy Flake, today I...

***What Are You Smoking, November 2021?***

Happy Thanksgiving! A late start to the morning pipe as we enjoyed some coffee and cinnamon rolls by the fireplace with the kids. Now, some 2019 Mac Baren Dark Twist in this Peterson Killarney Dublin.

    Thanksgiving blend?

Morning pipe is MacBaren Dark Twist. After the noon feast I’m guessing either some SG Hansom Flake or maybe a cigar if the guest(s) want to partake? Maybe a Hoyo Epicure or Partagas Serie D no.4? Not too strong, but enough body to defeat the gravy hangover ?

***What Are You Smoking, November 2021?***

Just finished cleaning & polishing 24 of the collection. Rewarding myself with the last bowl of G&H Kendal Flake in this Peterson Aran billiard. Just can’t decide whether this tobacco is 3 or 4 star in my rating system? I know I’m pretty sad that it’s gone - but eager to try Louisiana Flake as...

Which Blend Do You Wish You Bought More Of Before It Disappeared?

Bjarne Flake deLuxe was a favorite. I still have 3 tins - and hear that it might be available outside the US - but whether it’s the same blend I’m not sure. Ashton Pebblecut (McClelland) is one I cellared heavily when that era of Ashton tobaccos ceased - so much so that I didn’t buy any of the...

***What Are You Smoking, November 2021?***

Cracked a jar of Newminster Superior Navy Flake I put away in March of 2012 - First bowl in this Carey billiard is wonderful - but not as drastically changed from fresh as I expected? It’s great new - and with almost a decade rest !

    English Aromatic/Aro English Suggestions?

+1 on the Two Friends English Chocolate recommendation. Kraemer’s blend for Cary Grant is a distant second for me - but it had more to do with PG content than the flavor (Irish Mist genre) - which was very pleasant.
