Savinelli sans filter
Excellent choice, you're going to love it. FYI, Savinelli convertible pipes come with an adapter. They are typically cut smoother on one end than they are on the other, I stick the smoother end into the stem towards the mouthpiece because they seem to pass a cleaner easier that way. You'll see... -
Problem with my cobs, not sure what to do.
nsfisher nailed it. after you get the new stems most of the way in you may still have to smoke a couple pipefulls to get them to seat all the way correctly. good luck, Gary- garyovich

MK, For what it's worth, I gravity fill when using cube cut method and don't really tamp it down but kind of shake the bowl a bit to make sure everything settles. Because the cubes are still compressed flake, when ignited they expand more than a loose cut tobacco will. From my personal...- garyovich

cmkiefer, You are quite right, a few years ago when I was trying to "train" my palette, I kept a jar each of straigh virginia (macB#1 IIRC), straight perique, and straight latakia around. I agree, I love seeing pictures of people's pipes. I have posted mine a couple times, but it is kind of a PITA right now because the camera on my phone doesn't work. Trying To Decide Between My First Sav
They come with an adapter to stick in the stem in place of the filter, not sure exactly what the effect on pipe geometry is if you don't use it. Some of my Sav's have the adapter in them some don't, don't really tell a difference. -

I see more of a difference in how hot the actual pipe gets blasted/rusticated vs smooth, but see no difference at all in how cool the smoke is.- garyovich

Hand Made?
I have a Winslow crown Viking and really love it. It is definitely one of my best smokers. Partially rusticated bent apple and the stain gradually shifts in darkness as yiu go down the shank to the bowl. It's a great looking and great smoking pipe. -
Any Groups Available for Florida Pipe Collectors or Smokers
Daytona Beach here, I would love to get together with other pipers sometime. The B&M here is a good place to hang out, smoke, and get supplies but the tobacco tax in FL makes buying tins locally cost prohibitive (as you probably already know). Cavendish Confusion
A little clarification on my tobacco classification/pipe dedication rotation: I dedicate my pipes to one of 4 tobacco types, virginia blends, va/pers, latakia blends, and everything else. Thus, to be more accurate, if a blend has any type of cavendish in it, it goes in the "everything else" pipes.- garyovich

Cavendish Confusion
I'm sure there will be some disagreement on this "I say tomato, you say tomato" subject. That being said, if a blend has cavendish in it, I automatically toss it into the aromatic pile, my .02 for whatever it's worth. Gary- garyovich
