What are You Smoking? October, 2012

On my way to work. Black House in a Pete Racing Green 999.

    Nording signature

I have one with between 8-10 years color on it, it's very nice looking. I would definitely NOT sand it or do anything besides pack, smoke, clean, repeat. Will post a couple pics when I get back to the house.

    I'm considering Balkan.

+1 for not resurrecting the "what is a Balkan" discussion. If the blender describes it as Balkan that's good enough for this guy.

    I'm considering Balkan.

Balkan Sasieni is a very good mildish representation of the style. If you like it you can branch off into other variations. If you don't like it, I guess you don't care for oriental leaf.

What Are You Smoking - September 2012

Spending my lunch break in a park with a Winslow Crown Viking and some Balkan Sasieni.

    Flake Pipe

That being said, I will smoke cube-cut out of any pipe you throw at me!

    Flake Pipe

My personal preference for fold and stuff flakes is a taller narrower chamber. My favorite flake pipe is a Sav 804 Canadian. The chamber is perfectly sized for folding and stuffing 2 flakes of most cuts, and I like the extra shank-length. I feel it gets better flavor, though I know some will...

    PFC Dad

Awesome picture, thanks for sharing it! As a current service member, I wish I could smoke at my desk...then I might look like I enjoy my job as much as your dad appears to. @steve, what unit are you in? I have been in several where I was the only pipester, a couple times there were 1 or 2...

Pros and Cons to Buying Locally vs Buying Online

Like cigarmaster said, 85% tax tin FL means that 9$ tin of escudo I love to order costs 23$ at the local b&m. Thus I buy all my tobacco online. That being said I buy almost all my pipes local. Their price is usually about 10$ higher than online, which is worth being able to hold and inspect a...

    Black House

What is it supposed to be a tribute blend to? All I can find are vague references. All I know is I'm almost out and SPC needs to get more in stock.

My new 1960's Stanwell Never Smoked

Very nice looking pipe! Kind of a freehand take on the skater shape, which is one of my favorites but rarely seen. I own two and they both have thin walls thus burn rather warm. Looks like you will definitely have that problem. Maybe I need to start looking for estate stanwells... Well done!

    Sam Gawith's Full Virginia Flake

yup, I got that email on the way out to the truck after work, I stood in the middle of the parking lot completing my order before walking the rest of the way across the lot! They got quite a few different SG blends in. Sounds like I just made it if they were already out at 7:00.

    Sam Gawith's Full Virginia Flake

No wonder I can't ever find it when I'm putting in TAD orders!

    Author for Photoman

Most savinelli's have that. In my experience (about 10 Savinelli filter pipes), they smoke equally well with or without the filter adapter in place. Sometimes passing a cleaner is a little more difficult with the adapter in place. I throw out the filter that comes with the pipe and said pipe...

    Savinelli "Tundra" Line

mlaug, yup that's the only smooth I've found in stock anywhere, and I wouldn't have found it without some help from photoman. Now I'm determined to find one, going to talk to the local b&m tomorrow.

    Savinelli "Tundra" Line

I have one dedicated to aromatics, and another dedicated to latakia blends. They seem to smoke all cut types equally well, flakes clearly need to be cubed or rubbed however. They smoke very easy, and the immense amount of briar keeps 'em cool.

    Savinelli "Tundra" Line

rothnh, from what i've seen online there is a lot of variance in the appearance of this line. that one photoman linked to was really sharp. I would be very interested to know where you've found it for under 120$ in stock in the smooth finish, please share!

    Savinelli "Tundra" Line

photoman, no worries dude. I was kidding, i'm sure there wasn't a correlation. I think the auction ended up above retail lol. I'm thinking about having my local B&M get one for me but their mark-up is a bit excessive. So it would be great to have other options for price comparisons.

    Moldy Briarwood

Welcome to the forum! Fortunately I have never had a moldy pipe, but lankford's advice sounds pretty solid, not sure I would have thought of a food dehydrator. Anyway, you'll quickly find out what a wealth of information and experience there is on this site.

What Does a Fill Look Like?

top, great looking sav billiard. I may have to go back and re-examine some of the spots I thought were fills.
