What are You Smoking? October, 2012

Trying to bring about another Cardinals comeback through force of will and smoking FVF in a Savinelli Leonardo.

    Ashton Pebble Grain PAD

Rothnh, thanks for your insight. I've actually been curious about that for quite a while. You see comments a lot on etailers about how so and so has a signature craggy blast or such and such pipe has an abnormally shallow blast for a certain line. Thanks!

    Ashton Pebble Grain PAD

Ok, I guess I'm going to expose some of my own ignorance, I was under the impression that the effects of blasting had more to do with various qualities of briar ie hardness, grain etc, than with an individuals "talent" for lack of a better work, at sandblasting. Could one of you more...

savinelli leonardo da vinci self portrait came today!!

You're going to love it dude. Don't worry about building the cake it will come. Untreated bowl means (for me) gradually work your way up from 1/4 to full bowls, making sure to smoke real slow to keep from charring the wood until a little protective carbon forms. My Self-Portrait is an...

    Ashton Pebble Grain PAD

Awesome pipe, great looking blast. An Ashton, and a proper Bulldog are both pipes that are on my short list, perhaps I could combine them and kill 2 with one stone. Congrats!

    Today At The B&M

Nice looking pipe (cherrywood or poker?). I'm not familiar with the Brand either, nice thick walls and nice grain. Hope it smokes well for you.

    Samuel Gawith Strength Comparison

Give it a couple chances if you don't like it right off the bat. The first time I tried it I didn't care for it at all, but I kept at it and smoked a 2nd bowl. I thought I was going to end up giving the rest of the tin away. Then I noticed what a mild straight VA tasted like in that pipe, and...

    Experience with Winslow Pipes?

As has already been said, the letter graded pipes are purely aesthetics, the lowest grade winslow pipes are (to my understanding) essentially the same quality, as far as workmanship, geometry, etc. If straight grain is something you're willing to pay for then by all means, you should do so...

    Samuel Gawith Strength Comparison

I agree, 1792 would be a 9-10, I like it a lot, but what I really like is the ghost it leaves behind. I only smoke it in one pipe, and I love trying other blends in that pipe to see how the tonquin ghost interacts with other blends. I'm a high nicotine guy (dip copenhagen in addition to...

What are You Smoking? October, 2012

Sorry no picture today, but I'm currently smoking Solani 633 in a no name italian billiard. One of my best smokers and I have no idea how or when it came to land in my rotation, but I've had it at least since my 2nd Iraq rotation, so since at least 2005. bentmike, i love that lovat very nice...

Can't use credit cards to buy loose tobacco online?

FWIW, I have a lot of family in the area of JFH, and I visit the store everytime I'm in the area. My experience with the human beings that work there have never been anything but pleasant and straight forward. I have no idea what is really going on with this credit card thing, but I'm willing...

    Experience with Winslow Pipes?

I have a crown Viking and love it. It is one of my favorite smokers. Got it for $150 at the b&m, probably a bit cheaper online.

    Savinelli Leonardo Bombarda

Did you change your mind about the self-portrait? This was available recently on a couple of US websites. Now I'm kicking myself for not pulling the trigger. Now it's the only Leonardo I don't have in either rusticated or smooth and I can't find it anywhere but euro sites for $200+.
