    Modern Irish Seconds

I took a bit of a hiatus from the pipe and posting during the winter but now that spring is here, I'm back in the saddle. You make a good point about my fondness for Petes. Maybe I'll start a subchapter of the club! :)

Rationalizing Spending A Lot On A Pipe?

It's this pipe, right? I can understand your hesitation.

    Modern Irish Seconds

I have an Irish Second from smokingpipes.eu. It's a 303 silver spigot and is a fantastic smoker. The only thing I could find wrong with it is a slight bump located at the top of the rim which you can sort of see in the third photo of this set. It actually looks more pronounced in person but is...

    What are You Reading Now?

The Remains of the Day is in my top 10. Hello from a fellow Brooklynite.

Is This Mold? 2022 Cringle Flake

It's a bit hard to tell without a more close up shot but it looks like mold especially since it's in one specific area. If it is fuzzy it's mold, if it is crystalline, it's plume.

    Hello - total noob here

I had the same experience which, as you can see by a good number of comments here, is very common. I couldn't understand how anyone enjoyed pipe smoking based on my first few attempts. But I stayed with it and after a couple of weeks of trying (letting my tongue heal from being bit between...

    Looking for a Richer Tobacco

Plus 1 for Haunted Bookshop and OJK. For bold tobaccos you can't go wrong with Gawith Hoggarth's: Kendal Dark, Kendal Kentucky, or Dark Birdseye. I tend to prefer a strong smoke and these are about as rich and satisfying as you can get in my opinion.

The Specials frontman Terry Hall dies

Nuff thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the vid. Do reach out if you're headed this way. Hopefully we'll have a show for you to attend.

The Specials frontman Terry Hall dies

I am lucky indeed and never take for granted what a joy it is to play the Jamaican roots with others who have the same love and respect for the music. In fact, I had the honor of backing Ken Boothe here in Brooklyn in 2013 with a band called Crazy Baldhead. Here's a tune from the night. Ain't No...

The Specials frontman Terry Hall dies

I had the same experience. After being exposed to the 2 Tone groups I drifted to the Jamaican roots. My first ska band, at our final gig, opened for the Selecter with the Wailers headlining. I play the drums. My current group is called The Full-Watts Band. We're a 10 piece outfit that pays...

The Specials frontman Terry Hall dies

Excellent! The Untouchables was the first ska band I ever heard, way before I knew what ska was. "I'm not your stepping stone" was the track I believe. Being from NYC, the first ska band I saw live was The Toasters and I never looked back. I've even played in a few local ska/rocksteady bands...

The Specials frontman Terry Hall dies

Are you a ska/Jamaican music fan?

The Specials frontman Terry Hall dies

RIP Terry. Where did you catch them on the 2018 tour and did you see the Far East open for them? They are good friends of mine. I was lucky to see The Specials in NYC back in 2010 at Terminal 5 and at a Jimmy Fallon taping previous to that of all places.

I must be doing something wrong.....

Just a guess but it's possible you may be packing too tightly. It seems that your tobacco might be getting denser and denser as you tamp and progress down the bowl, resulting in the need to draw more air to retain the burn which in turn creates a hotter temperature causing the bitter flavors you...

Tobacco that Burn Like Gunpowder, Even If You Smoke Slow.

Took me a while to realize when I first started smoking a pipe that bright and red Virginias bite me bad. I stay far away from them now.

    Got the gurgle

I like my tobacco close to crispy but not dry as a bone. Flakes take longer than ribbon and coarse cut. When I smoke plugs, I cut very fine slices/shavings and rub them out well. Shags tend to be at a decent humidity right out of the tin for me. If the tobacco falls apart readily if I pinch it...

    Got the gurgle

I have pipes that smoke cool and dry top to bottom and some that give me a little gurgle, while others gurgled when new and then after a handful of bowls smoked through just stopped gurgling altogether. My cobs never gurgled until I put Forever stems on them. I'm pretty consistent with how I...

    Peterson 2022 Christmas Pipe

I'm a big fan of copper and could not pass up this beauty of a 999. Had an inaugural bowl of GH Scotch Flake last night and it was a sublime smoke. Cool and dry the whole way down.

    Tobacco From Ireland/Europe Question

Same at the Shannon airport. Years ago I was able to buy a 5 pouch box of Condor for 25 euro.
