In Stock Alert: Samuel Gawith Brown Sugar Flake

I got some from Watchcitycigar.com, smoked through one tin, and reupped when it finally showed up at P&C. Received order in 3 days. . It smokes a lot like SG Best Brown, a hair sweeter and some Oriental funk. SG Best Brown is a favorite of mine, I think this is right up there. I found it...

Dating for a Castello Sea Rock.

@briarblues this pipe has a 70 in the castle, a Sea Rock stamp, and a k in a circle, not an oval. I used to own a Sea Rock with a 50 in the castle. There are exceptions to every rule when it comes to Castellos.

    Dear Gawith & Hoggarth

I suppose I qualify as a hoarder, at least of GH and SG blends, but I look at the many Mylar bags I have on hand purchased in bulk when GH was in the 40-50 dollar range, compare the prices now, and feel like I have won the lottery. The distribution in the US of these blends was frankly a...

    Pipe Tobacco Drops.

.The tin art shows a 2021 LE date. They could have found a few odd tins, but no one on any forum I follow was able to score any, even acting immediately on receipt of the emai.

    Gawith Hoggarth Drop

I am likely in the minority, but the GH and SG ropes and Twista do better for me in a large bowl, packed loose. Because of the nicotine hit, I do find myself taking several breaks along the way.

    Another Level Of Snobbery.

Reminded me of one of my all time favorite songs by the late, great (an understatement) Guy Clark

Frustrated by Escudo Navy De Luxe Rolls

Copes was acquired by Gallaher around 1952. In 1986, a collector named John Herring brought a knife lid tin of Copes Escudo to a show. By the tax stamp, it could be dated to 1948. He graciously opened it and a fair number of us were fortunate enough to get a bowl full. A transcendent...

    Brown Sugar Flake

I have never had this particular Gawith offering. On another forum, Ernie of which city cigar is strongly advising people not familiar with the blend to fully rub it out after using scissors to cut 1/2 or so straps. Personally, I have yet to meet a Flake I can't fold and stuff in a wide bowled...

    Brown Sugar Flake

Some shops are advertising it with copy that says limited edition. I am more than a tad cynical about such things. There have been, as just one example, three limited editions of MacBaren Burley London Blend.

    Brown Sugar Flake

Official announcement is silent on that point.

    Brown Sugar Flake

Not exactly. From private correspondence shared with me about 2 years ago, the Danish Pipe Shop indicated that, since they were no longer selling tobacco internationally, they were willing to allow Gawith to remake it for the American market.

    Brown Sugar Flake

No word on whether or not it will be imported again after this run but I wouldn't be surprised if it came in again in 2024.

    Everclear and Cotton Ball Soak

I have used noniodized salt and Everclear since the early 1980's. No issues whatsoever. It worked for made in Ireland Erinmore and Mixture 79 from the same time period, the two, by consensus, worst ghosters out there. Glad to hear other things work. Way too much paranoia about ghosting. If it...

On Smoking Slowly and the Benefits...

Another benefit of slow smoking is that, when you visit your dentist, he won't tell you that you have precancerous lesions on the roof of your mouth and refer you to an oral surgeon for a biopsy.

    Castello finish question

Given the context, which would take a lot of words to explain, my friend thought the remark was in partial jest since Coppo knew he had spent many thousands of dollars with Agide on smooth Castellos. But he wasn't entirely sure 😀

    Castello finish question

Many years ago, probably around 1999, an acquaintance of mine from Owensboro KY visited the Castello works in Cantu with Agide Morigi, the owner of a tabaccheria in Ravenna, and some collectors from that region. After the tour, they all went out to dinner. After the meal, they started up their...

New Video Of Tin Equipment At Gawith

Not sure when the equipment was first used, but the video is recent
