What can I expect in England?

Most 50g tins are around 13-15 pounds which at the current exchange rate is less than 20 dollars. That's less than double the price you lucky US pipers get for a 50g tin, not "several times" the price as suggested above. There are a few great online tobacconists which offer a better selection...

    Aromatics Support The Pipe Industry

I've never been a fan of aro's, but recently accidentally discovered one I actually like. Troost Baai, a shag cut blonde tobacco that is both sweet and flavorful. Shares some similarity to Troost slices, possibly the same leaf but with a different cut and flavorings. Smokes cleanly with no gunk...

MB Old Dark Fired Plug Cut

Just asked my father to order me 7 tins. I won't be able to try it until May, when I'm next home for a visit. Told him to keep one tin for himself. Living in the UK sucks sometimes.

    From Larrysson Pipes

I read in the post about wax drip pipes a statement that Larrysson Pipes is retired. I didn't want to hijack the thread, so I thought it best to start a new one. I don't wish to be over-reacting by jumping on this misinformation, but it's not nice to see an erroneous fact about oneself on a pipe...

I Fail to See the Point

I love a good cigar. When it's really good, I'll smoke the last bit in a specially dedicated pipe. I mostly smoke petites, and have a very small chambered pipe that I use exclusively for that purpose. Saw my Dad do it once, and thought it was a brilliant idea. Been doing it ever since. Saying...

A dry cough from pipe smoking?

Heya fellas, I have a question concerning my health and I'm wondering if any here know about or have developed symptoms similar to mine. Basically, about ten days ago I started to develop a dry cough. Small at first, it is now getting progressively worse and my diaphragm is getting a bit sore...

    Questions About Walnut Wood

I'll chime in here as a pipe maker but also as a gunsmith that often works on walnut stocks. I wouldn't suggest using walnut for two reasons. First, it is soft and wouldn't hold up long under repeated firing. Second, it is slightly toxic. It has a chemical called Juglone (you can look this up...

What Do You Know About This Dunhill Shape?

No, that is a bit of blue tack holding the pipe up to take a photo!

What Do You Know About This Dunhill Shape?

It's exactly 5 inches long and just shy of 1 1/2 wide and tall and weighs 42 grams. How does that compare to a CK's size? Yes, it's from 1975. So if the "C" means complimentary, but it doesn't have the not for sale stamp, could it mean something else? C for "custom" maybe? If Dunhill did odd...

What Do You Know About This Dunhill Shape?

After failing to find a Dunhill CK shape, I stumbled across a similar shape and bought it. I can't find any information about the history of the shape. It is shape number 460E and it also has the letter C as can be seen in pictures. It is a very small pipe, way too small for me. I'm going to...

    Capstan Yellow Fungus

In all my years of pipe smoking and tobacco cellaring, I've only ever had one tin (re-jarred) go mouldy, and it was Capstan Yellow. I removed the affected tobacco and washed the jar, but the mould came back. I had to throw it all out. I guess once the spores are active, there is no getting rid...

    A New Larrysson Dublin

I would say that Isaac (Paul's son) would be classed as a budding pipe maker. He still needs a little of my help with the shaping, but I thought he was far enough along to merit his own stamp. He also does a lot of the staining on my own pipes. The amazing thing? Isaac is twelve years old (and...

    Cumberland VS acrylic stems

From a pipe makers perspective, ebonite is the preferred material for artisan pipes. One, because (I believe) it is the expected material to find on a hand made pipe. Two, it is a much easier material to work on; filing, sanding, sawing the funnel open, etc. There are two kinds of ebonite. One...

My new Double Reverse Calabash Pipe

Well I had two smokes in the pipe today. I'm a little disappointed. Moisture control was brilliant, and it was indeed a cool smoke, but no cooler than a gourd calabash. I found the flavour to be a bit muted and dull. I didn't find the "sweet spot" I normally find during my hour smoke in a gourd...

My new Double Reverse Calabash Pipe

Thanks for letting me know about the images, jpm. Yes, I have used keystones and they do work just as well as Philtpads. I have also used charcoal granules, which works best of all, but it does change the tobacco flavour slightly. It's not unpleasant, just not totally neutral.
