    Pipe Tampers

I used to use Czechs a lot but most of my pipes are 3/4 inch or larger diameter and that itty bitty tamping head was annoying to use. One of those cheaper Rattray's tampers has been my go to.

    Comfort Food Tobaccos

I've gotten more miserly as time has gone on and my comfort tobaccos these days are relatively cheap bulks. Capstan? In this economy?! C&D Derringer if I want a straight forward "pure" tobacco. Sutliff Mocha Strips if I want something with some sauce. I still smoke a lot of other blends but I...

    Show Off Your Petersons Here!

At this point I'd kill for more than a couple of smooth Draculas a year. Been looking for a smooth 150 for what feels like years now.

    C&D Winchester & Others

Either unlucky or your definition of bone dry differs from most. I'd say 1/3 of the bulk blends I buy, regardless of blender, show up at "light crisp" levels of dryness which is about perfect for me. I've only had one blend, 2oz of 507s from TPC, arrive bone dry. So it should be pretty rare.

    Deep Cleaning Cob Pipes

It's important to understand why you clean pipes in the first place. The main reason is pipe smoking leads to a lot of moisture, in-between combusting tobacco in a concave chamber and our disgusting mouths it can cause bacteria and other natural junk to build up. Usually in the stems and...

Cellar Labels (community labels part) is down.

This kind of thing is why I always post multiple links to stuff I share. All the labels I've done should be mirrored on Google drive but if anyone finds dead links let me know. I'll also try and find and rehost any decent, as in good to great photo scans or original designs, labels I've...

    Too Full of a Draw

Probably a larger draft hole. Some guys prefer it. Easiest thing is to keep packing tighter until you get the draw you want. Might effect burn quality though. Other option would be sending it somewhere to have the draft hole made smaller at a point using some kind of an insert. That said it's...

Brick and Mortar Shops With Online Stores

I'll throw McCranie's hat in the ring. Boswell's and Wilke's as well.

    Ennerdale Flake?

Love the stuff. It's my go to tobacco when I want to close my eyes and pretend I'm puffing away a hundred plus years ago. Really feels like, and is, a blend from another time.

What are You Watching? [2024] Please Rate 1-5

Just got caught up on For All Mankind. Loved it, probably my favorite show I've seen in a long time. 5 Stars. Characters were nuanced and they handled some touchy subjects with a lot more grace and realism than a lot of media today. Now I'm on a space kick.

    Escudo Alternative

Did Escudo actually have that much perique? Exclusive is a veritable P-Bomb at 50%.

Smooth Cobs: Possible Damage to Finish

Looks like plaster of Paris, then finished with either concrete mixer for the cheaper pipes or sprayed on lacquer for the nicer ones. https://corncobpipe.com/from-cobs-to-pipes/ I don't think you can wash off lacquer without some kind of thinner so it was probably the concrete mixer.

    Peterson Pub Pipe

I grabbed a heritage pub estate from SPC last year and despite being a straight billiard guy I enjoy it. The weight and hang isn't an issue at all and is often a better clencher than some of my straights that are 2/3rds it's weight. That said I dislike the p-lip and it keeps me from smoking it...

Why do English/Balkan Blends Burn so Well?

Englishes are the just easiest to smoke in general, outside of some specifically formulated codgers like Prince Albert. The biggest reason in my mind is the Latakia. It's basically preburnt and because of that takes and keeps flame easily. It's just like char cloth. To make it even better it's...

    C&D Winchester & Others

I suffer from this same affliction and through a lot of experimenting I've decided it's not actually the acidity, it's the opposite. Everybody's mouth chemistry is a little different and I think a lot of "tongue bite" and overall mouth discomfort is caused by tipping your mouths acidity too far...

    Oldest Smoked Tobacco...

Oldest is probably a tin of Murray's era Dunhill Light Flake from the mid-90s as best I can tell. I smoke it on very rare occasions and it is phenomenal.

Mac Baren Royal Twist - Only On SmokingPipes

I have to point out that since they've been doing this Royal Twist remake it's always been a SmokingPipes exclusive. Example: MacBaren Royal Twist Remake :: Pipe Tobacco Discussion - https://pipesmagazine.com/forums/threads/macbaren-royal-twist-remake.85340/ That started just after the...

    Scuffed Stainless Steel

Thanks for the expertise Cosmic. I just assumed because these are essentially knock off Old Boys produced by, I believe, the same folks making the Kiribis they'd be fairly cheap metal. And as far as I knew stainless is pretty cheap commercial product metal. It's titled as "Silver Pinstripe"...

    Do You Ash?

I'm sure it's subjective but do you ash throughout a bowl? I've heard some guys won't touch it with anything but a tamper/finger until it's done and dusted. Personally I'll get to a point, usually halfway down, where it starts to get difficult to light and I'll agitate and then dump the really...

    Birthday Presents to Yourself

I usually buy a pipe for my birthday and for Christmas. Tobacco I get throughout the year when either I need it or it's available when it otherwise wouldn't be. Since I've started doing this for Christmas I've so far bought myself a silver spigot Peterson 107 Ebony, then a Red and this year...
