    Cutter Top Tin Pipe Pornography

I love this channel. Really high production value and rare blends for how niche he is. He must either be the king of TinBids, Pipestud's son or raiding every podunk estate sale nationwide.

    Your Favorite Underrated Blend

The two that spring to mind are Sutliff Mocha Strips and bulk C&D Derringer. There's also a few of the C&D Christmas blends that only come with Peterson pipes that I've liked quite a bit and obviously only have one tin of. Smoking last year's Hearthside right now and it's lovely.

    Halloween

Absolutely. Although these days it's much more of the fall cider side than the Spirit Halloween side.

What Makes a Pipe Smoke Wet?

Like others have already said, things are wet. Moisture is everywhere, it's in the tobacco, it's in the air that's being sucked into the bowl, it's in your breath as you draw or push back into the pipe. For example run a dehumidifier for a while and be awed at how much water it can suck out of...

Removing Silver Band from Peterson Meerschaum Pipe

Since you did get some useful serious responses: I'm starting to think @runscott might be a vampire.

    Cob Hazing.

Exactly, you have to smoke a box of Jiffy corn bread mix before you're allowed to call yourself a real cob smoker.
  7. Swiss Army Knife

    Cob Hazing.

Funny enough the one time I tried this it was with the more expensive one, Stubby, and while it did char the inside and spoon it also scorched the rim a bit. So if anything make sure your aim is good.

    Bulk or Tins?

Pretty much anything that's in a jar or mylar, and there's a lot, is something I opened to smoke or try. Tobacco isn't an investment for me and I really try not to buy tins that I'm not going to try sooner than later. Now buying multiple tins of the same thing and then jarring all of them does...

    Turkish Latakia v. Cyprian Latakia

Talking with a local blender this is what he said as well. It's still technically "Cyprian" Latakia. He seemed to think it was borderline a marketing gimmick. I don't remotely have the lat palate to really discern the two but I have quite liked both 2023 From Beyond and the 2023 Christmas blend...

Show Us Your Knife (And Pipe)

My wife gifted me a Finnish Puuko I really like. Stag antler handle, carbon blade, beautiful leather sheath. Getting used to the "Scandi Grind" is challenging I'll admit but it's a really cool little knife.

    Favorite Navy Flake?

For true coins you're fairly limited. I really like Stokkebye's Luxury Bullseye Flake but in my opinion it needs at least six months of age on it before it really shines. The longer the better. Davidoff's Flake Medallions gets a good rap although I've never tried it. Peterson/Dunhill De Luxe...

Help! Replacement Reed stem for Virginia Planter Cob

Such is the fate of reed unfortunately. If you feel like being crafty you could try and fashion yourself a DIY nording compass style metal stem with some stainless steel tubing.
  13. Swiss Army Knife

    Bulk or Tins?

If I can buy it in bulk, I do. Maybe it was growing up on Costco but there's something special about buying a big old bag of something for cheap. Otherwise I'll buy tins obviously but here's hoping Cornell & Diehl will sell me Carolina Red Flake in a five pound bag.

Do English Blends Like Nightcap Ever Crest the Hill?

I've found basic englishes can get a bit dull with too much age on them. Nightcap has the benefit of pretty good base virginias, orientals and a bit of perique so even if the lat fades it's still a good smoke.

    New Peterson

Nice Pete. I love their army and spigots. Being able to yank the stem out for whatever reason is a godsend sometimes.

    Meerschaum - Don't Touch?

Maybe not to the same extent. Meers were really special in the 19th century because by and large briar wasn't much of thing until the latter half of the 1800s. So if you weren't wealthy your pipe smoking was limited to clays and the crude cob. Still it'd be a handmade product imported from...

Jim's C&D Sun Bear Black Locust 2024 (Small Batch) Review.

Thanks for the great review Jim. The previous Black Locust and Reeves honey editions are ones I haven't tried. Anyone have any thoughts on how Black Locust compares to Mountain Flower and Tupelo?
  18. Swiss Army Knife

    Cob Hazing.

To echo @Sig I don't think it's possible to find even a throwaway briar for the price of your average cob, at least not without a time machine. They're like $15 for the standard ones. Maybe $30 if you spring for one of their "fancy" editions with nickel bands and acrylic stems. Why people like...

    Cob Hazing.

I count my lucky stars in that I never feel like breaking in briars is a thing. They smoke great from the get go. Old Peterson swamp coatings notwithstanding. Meers can have a soapyness to them the first smoke or two. But cobs. God help me I hate breaking in cobs. I picked up a MM General...

    Painted Briar Options?

My biggest concern is a pretty hot bowl can make these kinds of "lacquer" finished bubble in spots.
