    Rubber pipe bits

I clench a lot and I've got them on 90% of my pipes. I tend to run them a half-inch up the stem from the bit so I can clench the pipe but not have a big rubber nub when I'm just holding it to my lips. I haven't had any staining issues but then again I usually avoid Vulcanite stems. Maybe I...

Robert McConnell Blends - Your Opinion?

I've seen the three main ones (Scottish Cake, Scottish Flake and Red Virginia) pretty regularly this past year. It's not been nearly as bad or elusive as it was in 2021/early 2022. And their myriad Dunhill clones always seen to be lingering around. Hutch I can't speak to Red Virginia but...

    McCranie's Choice Reserve

I'm sure most of you are familiar with McCranie's, it's a Charlotte, North Carolina institution and for a long time carried some fantastic blends made just for the shop by McClelland. Most famous of which was Red Ribbon. They also made many of their in-house bulk blends and, like everyone else...

    Scuffed Stainless Steel

Or at least I think it's stainless steel. I've got one of those knock off Old Boy Lighters that Peterson makes, or at least slaps their name on, and I've managed to scuff it up. I don't know if this was caused by alcohol used to clean the wheel and heads or some errant butane that got on my...

    Speaking of Silver Bands...

I've got an Ebony Pete that I have used liquid polish on before and while I try and keep it away from the stummel you know it's never perfect. The Ebony stain doesn't seem effected though thankfully. Still I use a polishing cloth most of the time. However that's not why I've darkened this...

    Peterson 2023 Christmas Pipe

It really is. I don't know how people buy rusticated or sandblasts on sites that aren't SPC, just a complete roll of the dice.

Jim's C&D Carolina Red Flake With Perique 2023 Review.

Interesting shift from the return to form of last year's pure virginia to this year's being the Perique-iest of the series. Thanks for the review Jim, great as always.

    Peterson 2023 Christmas Pipe

Wanted to check the shape lists, boo no 107, but this made me laugh: AKA these are going to look borderline brown in outside of SPC's great studio shots. The fact they're sandblasts probably isn't going to offset the "premium" pricing of the silver band, vulcanite stems and leather bags. So I...

    Peterson 2023 Christmas Pipe

Good looking pipes, the red sandblast and silver band especially. I was really hoping for another round of Spigots though, wishing I'd grabbed a copper spigot 107 last year. So I think I'll wait for the Black Friday sale and pick up a Green Spigot as this years "Christmas" Pete.

    Favorite Dan Tobacco blends

After K&K seemingly changed all the Rattray's classics for the worse I haven't found the gumption to make a big Esterval's order and so have only tried a handful of DTM stuff. Of what I have tried Salty Dogs is a fantastic VaPer and one of the few true plugs, and Devil's Holiday is far and away...

    The Most Disappointing Tobacco

I try and give blends I don't initially like a few chances because sometimes the chemistry just isn't there that day. Might feel like hot air and then another day it's blowing me away. That said.. GH&Co.'s Dark blends specifically the Dark Flakes. I tried unscented first, it was like smoking...

List of all new additions / inventions / systems

I didn't mean gimmick in a derogatory way. I own a few system pipes and like them quite a bit even if the P-lip part doesn't agree with me as much.

    Pipe Sighting at the Movies

    Yeah that'll do it!
  14. Swiss Army Knife

List of all new additions / inventions / systems

System's probably the most famous gimmicky pipe invention by far. Other standouts would be Falcon pipes and it's derivatives like Radiator, various Calabash pipes and reverse Calabash, Nording's bag of proprietary rocks, stingers (but these are basically extinct), and Brigham's weird rock wood...

    Tobacco Reviews Website Update

Seems like some pages load and others won't. The page for Sun Bear Tupelo works if anyone wants an example of the site. Frankly I kind of hate it. Like a lot of bad redesigns there's just way too much padding on everything and it looks like a mobile site despite being on desktop. The actual...

Pipe Smoke PH Tongue Sting and Alkaline Bite

I get this too, particularly with straight red virginias but they're one of my favorites and I refused to stop smoking them. The solution for me was to offset the pH in my mouth some other way while smoking. Seemingly my mouth leans more on the base side and virginias were sending it further...

    Ribbon cut VA recs

Sutliff's match for Elizabethan Mixture is, I think, better than the original and obviously cheaper to boot. They sell it under the name Match Victorian. Another one from the Sutliff stable is 707 but it's closer to a broken flake than it is strictly Ribbon.

Cellaring- How Long is too Long?

That's fair, I'd still say there's no rush. If you haven't already I'd throw my hat in for buying good bulk Virginias, especially if you're planning on long term cellaring. Stuff like Newminster No. 400, Peter Stokkebye Luxury Navy, Twist and Bullseye Flakes, Gawith Hoggarth & Co Bright CR...

    Comparing Sun Bear

I've tried Mountain Flower and really enjoyed it, haven't had the chance to try Tupelo yet. Generally @JimInks various reviews are a good resource to compare and contrast blends like this. He's incredibly consistent in how he lays everything out and you can discern most differences at a glance...

Cellaring- How Long is too Long?

Cellaring for the long haul is always a good idea but I'd slow down before you jump that deep into pipe tobacco. Realistically we're not staring down a tobaccopocalypse anytime within the next few years at least so you have time to make sure you actually want to smoke until you're 75 before...
