SG Skiff Mixture vs Squadron Leader - ?

I prefer Skiff. The Latakia is second fiddle to the Orientals whereas I get more influence from latakia is Squadron Leader. If I'm in the mood for more latakia, thee are several Pease blends that scratch that itch for me. Mike S.

Anyone Ever Used An Oxygen Concentrator?

In my experience, Phlebotomy is an art, more than a science. Hopefully, next time, you get "Tom Eltang" and not "me" for your procedure! Mike S.

    All Day Blend, Finally

I could easily get away with 3 or 4 blends and be completely happy. The problem is, you can no longer get ANY of them! lol. What di they call that, a "first world" problem? Mike S.

    Cubans?

I suspect what has been done, will be undone and visa versa. My only experience with Cuban cigars have come from Canada. Back in 1989, they were out of this world. Each purchase since that time has been increasingly disappointing. I realize Canada doesn't get the "best" of the best, in the 80s...

    Amphora Full Aroma

One of my early favorites was the Amphora Full. I tried G&H Red when it was released. A decent smoke but, not anywhere near the same. When Mac Baren released theirs, I was once again compelled to try it. While I find the Original (Brown) to be pretty close to what I remember, the red is not...

Same Name But is the Recipe Different?

If you listen to the third installment of the conversations with Allan Schwartz (episode 312 IIRC) on the Pipesmagazine podacast, he gives some insight to the same blend going into different tins. It is well worth the listen IMHO. My stepfather worked 30 summers at a Sherwin Williams paint...

New G.L. Pease Blend : Windjammer

McClelland closed up shop for a reason. Probably several but, one that Mike mentions as the primary reason. I'm pretty sure it effects other blending houses too. Mike S.

    Polishing Smooth Pipes

We care for many things that, despite our efforts, get dull or dirty again. Our shoes, our buttocks. It doesn't mean we shouldn't! lol. As far as preventing a "throw", a cardboard box, open in the front and cut around the bottom to not get caught in whatever you have your buff attached to will...

    Polishing Smooth Pipes

You can generate a lot of heat with the small wheels on a Dremel, especially on a stem. The adjustable speed one is better. Mike S.

    Polishing Smooth Pipes

A buffing wheel of soft flannel with Carnuba wax. You can mount one on a drill or a drill press. a lathe or other items. Mike S.

FVF Flake - Tin vs Bulk

It leaves a better "cut" than rubbing it out. There is plenty of "shake", to go back to my College days, but not as bad as I thought. Enough to cover the top of the bowls for easy lighting. Mike S.

FVF Flake - Tin vs Bulk

I've recently been using a coffee grinder on bulk FVF I jarred in the mid 2000s. The tobacco is drier after sitting in the jar for 13-15 years but it is just so tough to rub out. Mike S.

    Lane Ready Rubbed Tin

It may help to use some wax paper or aluminum foil as a gasket between the lid and the can but, you should fine unless you store it outside in the desert. Mike S.

What Dunhill is It? Made in England Without Underscore??‍♂️?

The 3 is a size designation. Group 3 is a tad smaller than a group 4. The S is for Shell, the pipe was sandblasted. Mike S.

    G.L. Pease Tins

I believe that has more to do with how the blends are tinned as C&D. Mike McNeil tells us that McClelland tins (which are basically the same) are filled and sealed in a lower oxygen environment. They do seem to age more slowly than most other blends to this non scientist. Could simply be that...
