I think I was sort of joking about which saw mill each came from and I doubt that I will get it. The left one (the nicest prime cut one) possibly a 'Super block' from Mimmo? The middle one from Jaume Hom and the one on the right from Manno- kenbarnes

I'll play! The block on the right hand side has quite wide grain although, sometimes this wide grain can be depicted as 'angel hair' which, if stained and finished well, can look quite nice. Hi mso489 blocks come at a more or less standard price. There are some batches that are ok and some that are beautiful. Extra Extra (that's the quality)Large Plateaux costs between $40 -80 per block. Is This a Lane Era Charatan?
The Lane logo was only stamped on the shanks of pipes shipped to the U.S. I am sure that there are many Charatan pipes in the U.S. which were bought in London stores or the Charatan shop in Jermyn Street in the 1960-1970s as the cost of them in England was about half the price. These would not... -

1976 Dunhill Stamp Question
Yes bluegrassbrian, I think it was simply in stock for 7 years. Dunhill did carry quite a large stock of finished pipes at times and with the purchase of Charatan in Mansell Street and The Grosvenor Pipe Co (Ben Wade) in Georgiana Street, they had a lot on their plate in 1976 and onwards.- kenbarnes

I agree and 'this time around' I want to make some super classical shapes in Dunhill group 4 and some group 3s too. The general demand in the 1970s and 80s was "Big, Big even Bigger". Today I am not under so much pressure to make what the markets want, rather to cut and make what I like.- kenbarnes

As it was warm, dry and sunny yesterday, I used my circular saw (outside on my decking) to cut five more blocks of plateaux and to 'trim-off' these three bowls (the black marks are only burn marks from my saw blade). This is, in my opinion, a very early piece - I would say 1979 - 1980. I think the stamp mark has been 'pressed into the shank by hand'.
