[/quote]Is this the stem material that you wrote about?
Yes, I think it is the 'Ponceau' Cumberland, which has more reddish streaks.

Even though I made this pipe myself, I think it is a really beautiful pipe and I find myself picking it up and thinking 'wow, nice piece'! Again, the photos just don't do it justice. I do know that I am better at pipe-making than photography!

The pipe is not yet stamped as I need to get a handle on the stamp die and need to get a handle on the stamping!

These pipes will have Ken Barnes on the front of the shank and the grade letter and on the reverse side, Handmade in England, the 78 stamp which was used on the first 50 or so Upshall pipes we made in 1978 (which I have) and the individual number of the pipe.

The 78 stamp will only be used on the pipes made in 2018 as it commemorates 40 years.

Wow, beautiful pipes! It was really cool watching these take shape during the creative process. Thanks for posting so many great pics!

Ken, this is like rummaging through a pipe collectors estate sale and finding a prized set of Charatan’s hidden away and untouched by light or time. Though, I think I may prefer warm tones in your mahogany stain. Bravo!
