    Stinger

I guess there's far more people preferring them than we're aware of. They just rarely voice their preference, as coming out as a Stinger User requires some balls of steel. You see, the tiny stinger is kinda sensitive topic. Besides being just a minute subject of personal preference for the...

    Stinger

I'm sort of chemically sensitive to certain types of tobaccos and casings so I do appreciate the slight but still noticeable difference that stinger brings with it. I often insert stingers into my pipes where originally there weren't any. When choosing a pipe I'd prefer one with stinger...

How to Apply Pipe Mud on a Drawhole Burnout?

I don't expect the oak (or briar, or any other wood) to come into play in any of my pipes beyond the breaking in stage when the coating is setting. It didn't even at that stage, though. I like this pipe not for its wood flavour (there isn't any) but for its look and surprisingly good engineering...

How to Apply Pipe Mud on a Drawhole Burnout?

A follow-up after 6 months. The Waterglass and Activated Charcoal treat worked like a charm to both pipes, the Oak one and the Maple one. No burnouts anymore, no soak-thoroughs, no problems whatsoever. A layer of dense cake grew on the walls and sticks firmly. Waterglass-based mud seems to be...

    English As A Second Language.

Same here. That's why when I'm typing a long post (I'm mostly a lurker here but a profuse talker on the homebrewtalk forum) I type it in Notepad then re-read and edit. Although there's no edit time window on that board and I can correct myself at any time, I feel embarassed to sound foreign or...

Ever Noticed How Vague A Pipe Census Is?

38 pipes in total. Only 7 of those are rotated regularly. Each is meticulously catalogued in an Excel spreadsheet: maker, model, new or estate, date, sum and source of purchase. The Total Sum cell is especially helpful in preventing spontaneous PAD urges.

    Three Nuns Tobacco

Great detailed writeup! I never tried the old VaPer 3 Nuns, and the current VaKy version doesn't impress me too much, though it's a nice tobacco anyway. Your description of the old VaPer version of 3N reminded me of another sliced VaPer twist: the new Samuel Gawith Cabbie Mixture. Lots of tang...

    Packing pipes for days

Not so readily but in 5 or 6 days it definitely did. I keep nothing particularly aromatic in my pockets or drawers so I wasn't really aware that those places might possess any odour at all. The pre-packed pipes taught me I was wrong. They picked up a certain whiff, nothing that I could put my...

    Packing pipes for days

I've tried to pre-pack my pipes for later use, like for the full week ahead. The main problem with the pre-packed tobacco turned out to be not as much drying as picking up foreign smells. After savouring some drawer/pocket/bag/etc. -flavoured smokes I stopped the practice.

    Alexander Briars

I have an Alexander Zappos pipe, bought one from him on ebay (month or two before he passed away). It's an "Aristocrat Old Briar" pot. The pipe is nice and the briar is good and very thick, although the mouthpiece is apparently made of a cheap plastic, as the tenon crumbled inside the mortise...

    Hello From Ukraine

On which one? pipeclub.net I suppose? It's not similar to this one at all. Here, we enjoy a spirit of camraderie however long one has been in the hobby. There, it looks to me like a prison inmate conversation: topdogs, underdogs and петухи (the humiliated newbies). --- I can read and...

Peterson lighter is pretty darn good!

Another happy Peterson pipe lighter owner here. I heard the Peterson lighters are made in Japan by Tsubota company. Which is a very respectable producer of pipe lighters under its own brand too. Gentlemen, what's your opinion on Zippo Butane fuel for Peterson lighters? For three years I've...

    Any Advice? Killer Tongue Bite

Have you ever considered an endocrynological check? The bite might come not because of the tobacco or smoking cadence but because of change in your own body chemistry. I well remember the moment in 2016 when tobaccos I had been smoking for years suddenly felt bity to me. After a year or...

Peterson Smokes Bad No Matter What. How To Fix It?

Yep. That looks like the best solution: giving the pipe another thorough clean, then Salt & Alcohol (or Spirit Retort) treatment and then seeing if the problem persists. If it does, only then the Drill comes in. Thanks to everyone who tried to be helpful!

Peterson Smokes Bad No Matter What. How To Fix It?

Same opinion here. With the only exception discussed in this thread. And I am not a fussy "pipester".

Peterson Smokes Bad No Matter What. How To Fix It?

Not, for sure. The draw way is perfectly tight. Nice suggestion though, thanks!

Peterson Smokes Bad No Matter What. How To Fix It?

I have only about 40 pipes, 12 of them Petersons. I've tossed or gave out 7 pipes of lower brands. I'd never toss a Pete. I think, it's a question of honour ability to proudly fix your stuff yourself, wherever you are. Well, you may toss this and that and buy some expendables instead. That's how...

Peterson Smokes Bad No Matter What. How To Fix It?

Theoretically, what do you think, why a clean pipe might give bland flavours? I've met several opinions that that could be because of a too large chamber and too narrow borehole. I don't know if that's true.

Peterson Smokes Bad No Matter What. How To Fix It?

That's what I believe in too. And that's why I don't take the silly simple "toss it" suggestions. It COULD be fixed, I'm sure. It's a 70's Irish Peterson, after all, not a 2022 Chinese "rosewood". I believe I've excluded all variables that depended on the previous owner, the pipe is perfectly...

Peterson Smokes Bad No Matter What. How To Fix It?

Thank you. I like you posts on this forum which I've been lurking for years, they are usually helpful and informative. Actually, not everything. I haven't tried the Salt&Alco and Boiling-Spirit-Bulb treatments and also I haven't tried the Re-Boring and Drafthole-Opening. Which I'll probably try...
