The Break-Ins Continue - New Falcon Bowl

Glad for the hijack. As a matter of fact, I'd like others to do the same in this thread. Love to see some of your meerschaums!! :col:

And Yet Another - Approved From Above!!

Had my first bowlful. Could taste the tobacco all the way through. Or maybe it was the bowl varnish. Mad Fiddler is the only tobacco I know of (except maybe Bengal Slices) that is tougher than the break in process. Yeah, couldn't taste all of the nuances with MF, but on the first smoke...

Thanks. Gonna break it in with Mad Fiddler!

And Yet Another - Approved From Above!!

Well, my new Ropp arrived today, A J16. And look at that reflection. I think my Guardian Angel likes this pipe. So I'm calling it My Guardian Angel Pipe! :col: Even a Star in the Sky! No, I didn't plan it!

The Break-Ins Continue - New Falcon Bowl

Wish I had known that about three weeks ago! When I get another regular bowl, I'll be sure to do this! Because I went the "just keep smokin' it" route, I was about to pitch the pipes! Now, those two bowls are smoking great! This meer lined bowl gave a decent smoke from the first puff and will...

The Break-Ins Continue - New Falcon Bowl

Ok, I smoked some Backwoods Buttered Rum in the new bowl as pictured in this thread. Now, I'm not a meer guy yet, and I don't know what I'm talking about, but it seems to me that the pictured bowl is soft meer, and I have a cherry aromatic dedicated to a miniature, also in soft meer. I had a...

The Break-Ins Continue - New Falcon Bowl

It's listed on Evilbay as an Apple Bowl. It looks even better on my International.

The Break-Ins Continue - New Falcon Bowl

II am now - I also have an International as well. I sure didn't enjoy breaking in the bowls, though. Toughest and worst bowl break-ins I've ever experienced. They're both covered nicely to 3/4 way up now, but need more smoking to get to the thickness that works best for me.

The Break-Ins Continue - New Falcon Bowl

And is it a beauty. It was suggested to me that I end my Falcon kit with a meerschaum-lined bowl rather than a solid meer bowl. I took that advice, because I love briar, even though I scorch all my bowls - I lost my right eye in a series of three strokes over a decade ago, and with no depth...

    A Neat Hack

I was a kid in the fifties, and when we went on trips, I sat in the back seat of the car with my nose in a book. Never even looked out the window. Mom always got after me for not looking at the scenery. And when we ate, we stopped off at a side road, Dad pulled out a chintzy fold up table with...

    A Neat Hack

Hmmmm . . . you guys are now talking about something totally unfamiliar to me. What is a Waffle House? I'm thinking it's a fast food nightnare. Nothing like that up in these parts but McVomits and others of this ilk. I'm thinking I should be grateful . . . . . . the stepping on the floor thing...

Hey, Anyone Heard of C&Ds "Mad Fiddler"

It's seemingly a totally different world - concentration to play difficult music is not done in an instinctive manner. I do know, and have heard, of serious violinists going into fiddle competitions and winning, and have had the stuffing beat out of them by the "good old boys" after. Actually...

Hey, Anyone Heard of C&Ds "Mad Fiddler"

Methinks that artistic bent could also run in your side of the family, too . . that picture of yours, with it's composition and control of the depth of field, is quite a cut above the norm usually seen in forums. And the pipe bowl at the 1/3 point and the lighter in the same plane of focus...

Hey, Anyone Heard of C&Ds "Mad Fiddler"

Hey, Anyone Heard of C&Ds "Mad Fiddler"

All things equal, if given an echoless sound chamber (ie recording studio environment) compared to an amateur, quite a lot. Compared to pro to pro, not much. Some do produce a bigger sound (ie Isaac Stern) but it is also instrument dependent as well as bowing technique and certain interpretive...

    A Neat Hack

I can, now that I know that's the problem. If I get distracted (phone call, dog whining) or simply too anal about correcting spelling and grammar mistakes, I have a couple of times exceeded the limit. Thanks.

Hey, Anyone Heard of C&Ds "Mad Fiddler"

As a retired ex-professional violinist, and somewhat mad myself, this one was just a natural for me. It's one tobacco I think is perfectly named

    Alternatives to Whiskey & Pipe

I like cold coffee, Roibas tea, filtered cold water or plain Perrier, depending on tobacco. A chunk or two of your favorite ryecrisp also works . . . . to me at least doesn't detract from the flavor of the tobacco I'm smoking.
