Does anyone out there have issues with using a regular Zippo versus the pipe lighter Zippo? (Other than the obvious first hit of fuel taste, of course which is intrinsic to both.)
That is exactly my dilemma. I would like to get the "pipe" lighter, but like the customized Zippos better. So far, my Zippo is my favorite pipe lighter. Wooden matches are a second but not always practical. I haven't gotten a pipe insert yet. They don't sell the insert by itself on the Zippo site and out of principle, can't get myself to buy a whole new lighter.
Then I shall check it out.My Thunderbird butane insert has worked well. I recommend it.

Apparently you guys don't know this but you can send the lighter in to Zippo and they will send you the old insert plus a pipe insert inserted in the body for free. ?That is exactly my dilemma. I would like to get the "pipe" lighter, but like the customized Zippos better.
I’ve found if you light the zippo and give it about 3 seconds before putting it to tobacco, I can’t taste it at all. Of course everybody’s taster is differentI love Zippos for their form and function. I do not however like the taste of the fuel. I prefer butane.
I used to notice it, but after time I guess I just got used to it.I’ve found if you light the zippo and give it about 3 seconds before putting it to tobacco, I can’t taste it at all. Of course everybody’s taster is different![]()
Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner, thank you!My Thunderbird butane insert has worked well. I recommend it.
I am not sure. The Thunderbird had me at "soft flame." ?I am interested in the butane insert, are they manufactured by Zippo or is it a custom?
