Thomas Wolfe wrote a novel "You Can't Go Home Again" in a series of writings discussing the changes in American society of the 1920's and 30's.
That fact was born out in my mind when, at the age of 34, returning to visit my home town, I decided to take a drive out to the site of my grandfathers farm. Upon arriving, several acres of concrete with a car dealership on top setting just off US highway 77, greeted me. Where once had been a country home with barns and outbuildings ,sunny glades rimmed with shady Cedar,Oak, and Elm, my vision now encountered concrete, neon lights, cold metal, and glass. The old home place and farm for which I held so many warm fond boyhood memories was irrevocably gone, wiped out, never to exist in reality again.
These pics are the closest we can come to returning to the old days, with all of their good and bad. Really wonderful pics and clips of yesteryear. Thank you all for sharing.
