Disappointing showing from England. Never really looked at the races tbh. The pluses are a clean sheet and as long as Wales don't thump us 4-0 we're through to the knockout stages.

The US v Iran game should be good.

This is a friendly reminder that the modern iteration of soccer is boring as fuck.

US and England battle to the death in the ultimate cage match.

Checks stats. 0-0 boring.
Yeah, it wasn't the greatest advert for the game. It's just the way it goes sometimes🤷🏻‍♂️. The US defended well and could easily have nicked it.

Ooft! Not been watching any matches so far, but the last round of games in that group will be tasty.
It'll be interesting to see if Argentina and Germany can bounce back in their next games. Germany have gotta get something out of their game with Spain which won't be easy.

Barring a complete catastrophe against Wales, England will qualify which is the important thing. Tournament football isn't a sprint and you aren't gonna play great every game. England's game against Scotland in the Euros was a big let down from an England point of view, but we got the point and qualified for the knockout stages and eventually made the final.

For the life of me I can't understand why Southgate doesn't play Phil Foden. I hope that situation changes and Harry Kane starts to play better. If we wanna go deep into the tournament we'll need him firing on all cylinders.

Hopefully, the final group games are belters🤞

Has anyone else noticed that there's been zero violence at this World Cup? No hooliganism of any kind. That's one of the positives of holding it in Qatar. The hooligans are all terrified of being banged up in a Qatari jail for the next thousand years.

I'm no footie expert Chris but if I'm honest, the USA seemed to have the upper hand most of the game.

So much for my postie's prediction of 3-1 to England :(

Regards,

Jay.
LOL I doubt you'll be seeing your postie with the incorrect predictions for a while. They're all going on strike, aren't they? Along with the university lecturers, nurses, junior doctors, train drivers and just about every other bugger. I swear if this carries on much longer the whole country will grind to a halt.

You're right about the game btw. We had a few chances but were lucky to get away with the draw. Hopefully in our next game against Wales we play more like we did in our opener.

I thought the game was good, the USA looked generally livelier around the pitch and were very organised . A point each was about right.
England got lucky today. Also Southgate borrows all that talent from City and only plays Stones the whole match. Grealish on in the 70th or so. Phil should have been out there. Walker would have been a help too.

Grealish made a real difference, should have come on earlier. The game was played In a respectful manner and without all that disgraceful play - acting, diving and cheating that we see from many teams. That was a positive . I agree, the USA played well and could have won it, Wales may not be so organised and I believe we will win that one.

The England fans booing the players off at the end was all kinds of pathetic. The previous game those same fans were going wild because we put 6 past Iran. We have one not so great performance and they turn on them🤷🏻‍♂️. You could understand it if it was our final group game and we were going out of the tournament but that point means we've got one foot in the knockout stages.

The words "fair weather" come to mind. Disappointing.

If England played the US in American football and the game ended in a 0-0 tie, it would be a travesty.

Does this mean the US gets bragging rights and the game can be called soccer now? I'm mostly kidding, by the way.

Southgate said it after the game and I agree- it is always difficult to have a good performance following a game like the one against Iran and especially against an opponent you’re expected to dominate. That said the U.S team played well and perhaps they deserved all 3 points.

Also- I must admit I don’t understand why Foden and Walker aren’t playing? I have no great love for Man City players as I’m a United fan but Foden at least should be in Englands 1st 11.

Full disclosure. I actually love football/soccer. I used to watch Bundesliga on a little black and white and I read “Soccer News” until the ink covered my fingers.

I played from the age of 8 up through two years of semi pro (we called it the starvation league) and coached my children’s teams.

BUT some of this has absolutely ruined the game.

At this rate Greg Lugainis has a promising career.

Until they figure out how to throw a 60 yard touchdown they will always be named soccer. Football is for men, soccer is for floppers, they make me want to puke.

I should add I played a lot of soccer during spring sports and my right foot was the stronger of 2. I played defense as I could kick the boll a mile.
American football is Rugby for ladies.

The USA put out some Tweets with a picture of the Iranian flag without the emblem of the Islamic Republic. They did it to show support for the protests that are going on over there. Of course the rulers of Iran weren't too happy about it.

From the newspaper:
"Iran’s football federation demanded their opponents receive a 10-game ban for “offending the dignity” of their country."

LOL good luck with that one👍🤣. Looking forward to the USA v Iran game on Tuesday, should be good.

Fifa does not care about anything other than its own rules. Any sanction will only come from breaking FIFA rules.

Apparently they did. From the same article:

“According to section 13 of Fifa rules, any person who offends the dignity or integrity of a country, a person or group of people shall be sanctioned with a suspension lasting at least 10 matches or a specific period, or any other appropriate disciplinary measure,”

Won't matter though. No way is FIFA gonna ban the US for 10 games.

I think those rules are specifically for racist, xenophobic or sexually discriminatory manifestations within a stadium of an official Fifa game or its associations. Not because of something that is posted on Twitter.

Probably. FIFA are a law unto themselves and will construe their rules anyway they like to suit themselves. Iran are upset but their demands for a 10 match ban are ridiculous and it ain't never gonna happen.
