Why Do You Think PM IS The Number ONE Pipe Site ON The Web?

I am a member of a few boards and look in on others from time to time. This place is always the busiest post wise, it has more history info than any other site, and the members are the most informed and knowledgeable in the pipe community. I have my theories but would like to hear from others before I give my reasons.

Good set of rules that are followed 99+% of the time. Good moderators that handle situations that get a bit heated or out of line. Most know when things are getting dicey in a thread with all the IBTL comments.

I think you've already identified three major reasons right there: More action for longer with more knowledgable members. I'll throw in formatting and diversity. I like the way this forum is laid out. A lot of online forums look like they are still using a site design from 2005. And I think there is a wider diversity of people on this site. Some other pipe forums, and the reddit pipe smoker groups, are full of younger folk who got into pipes through the LOTR series and only smoke out of the sort of churchwardens that are seen in those movies. Here we have a few of those sorts, but mostly just die-hard pipers who are both experienced and knowledgable, and a wide variety of ages from younger folks in their 20s to old hands in the biz such as Dan (@oldgeezersmoker) and others. Add to the mix a well moderated forum where we are all (mostly) saved from our baser instincts, and it's a winning combination.

Kevin's a smart business guy and knows how to keep the show on the road, and updates the site, and the mods are good natured but steady in insisting the Forums keeps some esprit. This attracts people who have a serious interest in pipes and tobacco, have some depth of knowledge, and are interested in learning more. Like any community, it depends on a variety of people with different personalities and talents and knowledge, and that helps keep it fresh and energized. I don't take it for granted.

Actually I have been here for so many years I would be lost without my daily PM fix. I happened to love Kevin's set up and he is one of the few people who knows how to keep the show on the road. Love the guys on here and I have made so many very long lasting friendships from this place that I have lost count.

The site is run well. They keep feeding information from "the magazine" portion which trickles down into the forums, which are filled with helpful people. I think the tone is friendly and I think that keeps sponsors interested.

True. There is a newer pipe forum I’ve been on a few times and it’s a lot of beginners (not to mention a ridiculous amount of bad language and political posts). The level of knowledge and atmosphere on here is the best.

I found the site because of the SEO, but I stayed because the moderation keeps us all from annoying each other with our non-pipe related idiosyncrasies.
