Did you write a little career synopsis for this thread? Or maybe not so little? I just assembled my several posts in one document and saved it, and will probably print it out for family. I don't think I've said that much about my career in one place. Male reserve? I liked brad's short paragraph, the whole story in one go. Many interesting tales in this thread for sure.

Well before the housing market went belly up I was a mortgage writer for JP Morgan Chase. Since then I changed gears, literally. I have been driving big rigs for several companies. Got my cdl through swifts training program and then started training student drivers over the road for them. Did a little flat bed work for a mom and pop flooring company out of Florida. Transported liquid oxygen for a year with Lund. Now I work for Dominos Supply Chain, in probably the most dangerous region of the USA , pacific north west.

This may come as a shock due to my user name, but I am a psychologist. Specifically, I work in the public school system as a school psychologist. My job entails assessing students with education-related disabilities, providing and developing academic and behavioral interventions, counseling students for social skills/trauma/emotional regulation/grief, analyzing academic data, threat assessments, crisis response, and helping determine the least restrictive environment for individual children to learn in.

It's a busy job. Working in the school system is very frustrating at this current time. More and more responsibility is placed on the school and less and less power is being granted. Parents now expect us to not only teach their children academics, but also teach them how to behave and even communicate. The number of 3-4 year-old students who are coming in not speaking or aren't even close to toilet trained is very frightening to me. Behavior is a major concern as students can effectively destroy classrooms and attack staff without much fear of lasting consequences. Districts are terrified of lawsuits which paralyzes our ability to act. This country has a major parenting crisis that needs to be addressed.

I can't also fail to mention that the number of folks going to school to be teachers has diminished greatly. Many schools are having a terrible time finding qualified staff members. Unfortunately, the job is difficult and the money is not worth it for many.

Sadly, every point you addressed is true. I raised 4 children of my own and am now helping my wife raise her 2 daughters who are in high school. I see it every day, it makes me sick. A large number of parents now take zero responsibility to teach their children anything then are floored when they learn their child can’t function as an adult and of course that is the systems fault.

I've been in the automotive repair industry for 35yrs, so far, and have Master Technician certification along with L1 advanced engine diagnostics certification. Started making pipes 2yrs ago as a hobby. Now I'm looking to turn that hobby into a semi retirement.

I am a consultant for pharmaceutical companies. More broadly, my job is to listen to what a client wants me to do, ask questions, ask some more questions, do some more listening, do some digging, analyse what I find, and prepare and present a summary to our clients, along with suggestions for a handful of actions for the future.

Prior to that I was a university researcher in biochemistry.

Growing up I always loved cows. I dreamed of becoming a bovine animal husbandry specialist. Then I went to college and discovered it didn't involved setting up a cow and a bull on a blind date in a barn with candle lights and playing Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On" like I thought it did. Turns out you have to give the bull a happy and then stick your arms in cows with a baster and stuff! Ewwwww gross!

So I was lost. After that I answered an ad in the back of the Washington TImes. There was a clandestine agency looking for people to do "wet work." I thought it was irresponsible of the government to be involved in wet t-shirt contests but I told myself it was the Clinton administration and I needed the money. Well, wet work also wasn't what I thought it was and I get queasy at the site of blood. They let me go on the first day after I threw up on the instructors shoes when I pulled my shot and took out the janitor.

So I ended up working in technology. I worked for Microsoft for the better part of a decade and then HP for nearly 20 years. Now I work for a company that makes flat panels displays and projectors and I run their government contracts business. Oh sure, my careers dreams are shattered and I am a shell of a man but I have a 46" desktop monitor at home...so yeah.

I have been in the LA film industry since the late 90s, most of my career has been as a First AD (ie, I run set logistics for Directors and Producers). Trying to migrate off film sets, and into a studio job, but our current collective situation has obviously put a hold on that.

“Retired” UX & Visual Designer. Got into the web in college before images existed on websites. Back then, if you could spell “HTML” you were hired! These days, I handshape surfboards once in a while and try to control my PAD & TAD. 8O
Congrats on earning your BA/BS soon. It’s never too late to learn or do anything.
Nice! Would love to see some pics of those boards!!
