Sure but look at Sutliff and Mac Baren now. I'm not saying that the never had value, nor that "no one likes them" nor am I saying that they are awful, I am just saying to Bob here that they are obviously not the gold mine he was saying they were.
They certainly have potential and certainly could have been profitable and made up whatever was paid for them.
They could have also sold them off piece by piece.

I'm a bit disappointed, I don't see any votes for Backwoods Red. Kidding aside, there's a pretty good chance I would smoke it. I never dove into Sutliff blends (only tried one) so I certainly won't now. Hope you all get a chance to buy the ones you enjoy!

I must be a weirdo because after 15 years of smoking pipe tobacco I've never tried any Sutliff and, I don't even really have an answer as to why.
It ain't just you :) What you neve had, you'll never miss. But there's a couple or three MacBaren brands I really like. But if they go, I'll ignore the subesquent black market on principle and look forward to discovering something else I find I like just as much. After all, one;'s tastes do change over time.

I have tried to resist adding to my cellar during this STG/Sutliff/Mac Baren deal , but after watching Simon on LCSBriars YouTube wax poetic today about the loss of Mac Baren Roll Cake Spun Cut, I found 2 lbs bulk on a website this afternoon and hit the “buy now” button. Oh, well, I guess my aromatic days are about to return with a vengeance.

On reflection, I doubt any of the MacB or Sutliff products are going to become collectibles ever.
They’re not McClelland and this isn’t a McClelland moment. Neither company earned that level of recognition from tobacco aficionados.
The one possible exception might be the Cringle Flakes, for fans of matured Red Virginias. I wouldn’t bet the farm on that, either.

Depends. I think mixture 79 will be. I think EGR will be. With the lack of many coin options I think those will have some demand. I don't think any will be McClelland moments. But I have known a few smokers that only smoke MacB. I am sure they'll pay a premium for an old favorite.

Likewise new smokers will probably pay just to have the opportunity to try something no longer in production

I think all the limited edition Sutliff stuff will be sought after.
The Birds of a Feather series, Pipe Force series, Cringle Flakes, that recent coin VAPer and its brother, that limited edition English whose name escapes me at the moment, Maple Shadows etc.

I think folks will also miss the LJ Peretti blends and the Watch City blends and the Ken Byron blends and such.

I don’t think the bulk Sutliff will be so sought after as it’s just so ubiquitous.

With the announcement of McClelland closing back in 2016, many individuals began hoarding any of their blends they could acquire for the sole purpose to flip the tobacco at a higher price. People were buying blends they never even smoked or blends they didn't like just to be able to flip the tobacco at a later time at a higher price. I know this because at the time I was part of the YTPC, and knew of several individuals that were doing this. In my opinion this was a 'Dick' move, as people that enjoyed those blends weren't able to buy them as they were all ready snatched up. It was very unfortunate that people would do this to their fellow pipe smokers. People were even doing this when their was the uncertainty of the Dunhill blends, before they were re-branded with the Peterson name.

I agree with Sable as I don't think the Sutliff and Mac Baren blends are on the same level as McClelland. It's not to say that there aren't some really good blends, as I enjoy several Sutliff and Mac Baren tobacco's and will miss them when I'm out, but it's not the same as when we lost McClelland.

I'm sure the same thing is going on currently with Sutliff and Mac Baren blends. I would bet there are individuals out there that never smoked a Sutliff or Mac Baren blend because they deemed them inferior; however, they will buy up a bunch of tins and/or bulk in hopes of flipping it at a later time. I'm sure there are individuals that will go out and buy 20 tins of something to add 5 to there cellar and flip the other 15, and take advantage of their fellow pipe smokers down the road. Again, 'Dick' move in my opinion.

I'm all for someone to buy what they can, and enjoying said tobacco, but buying a bunch of stuff just to flip it; when there were people out there who really love said that tobacco and want to buy a tin or two before they can't; all of a sudden can't even do that because of the hoarders who buy up what they can so they can flip it for a quick profit. That's just asinine to me. Again, my opinion.

The match and blending tobaccos will be sorely missed by smokers and independent blenders alike and as I’ve said before here the Amphora tobaccos were a mainstay across the globe for all and very sentimental. I love their 515 and have more than enough cellared and buttered rum has become virtually my only aromatic that I reach for and I have enough. What is amazing is just how many blends outside the Sutliff/MB name used Sutliff tobaccos, that point alone has surprised me now that I’m starting to look deeper.

Well. I have always thought that Hogshead was the biggest sleeper of them all and have stacked cans of it high as I can. Who knows what’s going to happen with SPC but that’s the only blend that I care about. Maybe HH burley flake but I find BBF2 better for my money and I have plenty of it too. Also I decided to get more WCC ACPM because that might change for the worse.

EGR was headed for the scrap heap before jiminks got Sutliff to change direction.
I doubt that it will join the immortals.

I definitely think the Cringle Flakes will be highly sought after, they always sold out so quickly as it is. Maybe the Birds of a Feather and Pipe Force stuff too since we're unlikely to get another limited edition series from Per Jensen unless he finds a new home. As for Mac Baren definitely the HH line, especially since it was made with unique equipment meaning it can't easily be matched.

I really wanted to try that one

And now there's scammers who join FB pipe groups with pictures of other people's Frog Morton stash often with Esoterica in the mix as well. Worst part is people fall for it
